oil pump priming

Anyone know if oil pump priming is needed when installing the motor back into an SRX? I see a tube comming up from the pump on the motor and windering if I just remove that and fill with oil to the top...?

if you got oil in the tank and open that line up..you get oil everywhere.That is the bleed line.Open it up and oil should come out until it is a steady stream with no air pockets.It will make a mess down below when it all drips down to the frame.Yamaha should of made a better system for that.

Nice, I just cleaned all that mess LOL! Thanks man. I'll figure something out even if it's just rags...
 
Stuff as many rags as possible down around that fitting with the phillips head screw on the top,cram them down underneath too if you can that will catch as much oil as anything.Remove the phillips head screw and let the oil flow out until there are no more air bubbles,put the screw back in without dropping it down into the bellypan hopefully.If your still a little concerned about air you can always yank the oil pump cable wide open once the engine is running and hold it that way for 10 or 20 seconds,that should really make sure there's no more air in the line.

right there is excellant advice, when a engines been torn down or removed,etc, you should bleed the pump and also pull the cable wide open for the first bit of engine start up, it helps put extra oil everywhere till the gas/oil film from the fuel gets a good coating in there, exactly how I do it! ;)!
