I just got myself an 06 Apex but kept my 2000 SRX. Loved my SRX and couldn't let it go just yet. Can't wait to get them both out and try them back to back. I also had a 98 SRX. It was a great machine but 00 and up had a few changes that make it a better machine for sure.

cool. just dynoed a stock 2002 srx before we tore the motor down for major mods and found 129.8HP at the crank. tuned a little better i would say 135HP.

its not way off. And the sled did have 5200 miles on it. But with 3% leakdown. i calibrate my brand new dyno before every run. Its accurate.

They tune it for days!! Then de-tune it when they sell it to the consumer so he or she does not nuke it. Your yamaha srx off the showroom floor has less than 145. guaranteed!!

dont get me wrong- The SRX hauls ***!! this isnt just the yamaha- ALL sleds of ALL makes are subject to inflation. The bottom line is that HP numbers are just that- NUMBERS. The proof is on the race trck, trail or lake!!

I couldnt care less whos names you drop as that dosent negate the fact there are exaggerated numbers out there. your quick to slam people. Post your stock un-modified SRX dyno sheet on here with the correction factor you use and prove it! oh wait that could be doctored up couldnt it. thats my point! Your right a 205 hp anything will beat a 175 hp anything. my point is ive seen VERY reputable dyno shops give BS numbers. Alot of guys believe the BS thrown out there and its a bit unfair to keep lying to the public to sell stuff. had our sled to a "reputable dyno shop" and they said it made 194HP! well it turnes out it was only 170HP because the dyno was wrong. so much for the reputable shop that builds a million motors thing!

Everyone can get a differnt dyno number and the way the differnt dynos "load' the engine is another thing, the dyno software,the correction factor, the sweep used,etc.
If anyone looks at the dyno runs in alot of snowmobile magazines youll see they have 104+ air quality, lots of controlled enviorments, and theres nothing wrong with that..
Theres lots of varibles and ones guys "pump" wont read the same as the next guys, especially with the dynomites!
The ol "194hp improver", wont mention any names but I got a pretty good gut telling me who was behind that, amazing at how someone with a mere 172hp could beat every last one of those "194hp improvers" at haydays, 2 years in a row....must be a heck of a clutch tuner.....LOL

it really does,ent matter how much power u got its who can get it 2 the track and finish the race, all dyno pulls will not have the same numbers, ive seen 1000 tripple doos beat up on 1500cc polaris, between those 2 sleds it come 2 tunning , jetting, gears, and track set up out of the hole. the 1500 had 25000 dollars spent on it the doo had some one that new how to put the power to the track and move it out. AL

Tony, I dont think its a question as to why any manufacture uses a dyno or any race team,etc. I think aircraftman was trying to say about bogus numbers being used by differnt places to sell stuff and then he would check it on a dyno and it had no where near the power he was sold. That game has been going on since snowmobiles were supped up and aftermarket companys showed up. Look in any sled magazine and youll see they all use hp numbers to sell parts. look at certain places there in NY that sell aftermarket silencers,4hp gain,etc.,but when tested on radar lose mph!.
Thats why I like to to tell someone youll make around this much and have them take it to a independant dyno, no where near here and not associated with me and test it, then when they make the power and sometimes more then what you said, they are tickled pink. Real world hp and a sheet of paper are just that, a sheet of paper. Lots of time when they get max hp on the pump,(500bsfc) the sled wont even run well in the field(too lean), or its a cold pull, look at the coolant temp it wont even be close to 100 degrees. This is what I am talking about when saying real world vs paper numbers. Next time someone loses and says I made 165hp on the dyno and they lose to a dialed in stocker, they can wipe you know what with the paper, cause its about that usefull....lol
I do know the 98-99 srxs only made 137-138hp, the 2000-02 were right around 140hp, "the ringer" I have seen was 142hp, never seen one higher. Maybe its out there,built on a tuesday, tight squish,all the engine specs at the minimum, 145hp....... who knows.
The blueprint engines which you know are the ISR legal stock 700's made 152-153hp on the dyno, again, this is a paticular dyno. I also think you can come up with bigger or smaller hp numbers, but when this sled will run 5.43 seconds in 500ft in 700 stock, its making more power then stock,as evidence by the times, and mph. A couple of these engines run in radar events and have big speed numbers, because mph is indictive of your horsepower.

my take on the srx700
really the srx700 has only had minor changes from its birth in 98:
98-99 srx good sleds, really the only downfall is the single bulb headlight,as it always felt like the sled was out running the light beam at night...lol
2000- very good sled, (nicest graphics in my opinion),300watt lighting system,super bright at night,still used the same single rheostat on the handwarmers/thumb warmer, hard to get a comfortable spot,either your thumb was on fire or hands cold(same with 98-99)
2001-same as 2000 as far as 300watt electrical, but used a dual rheostat thumb and handwarmer system, fixes the problem of too hot or too cold
2002- again same sled but now has a detonation controll system to guard against bad gas and burndowns. It worked pretty good, some were more sensative then others. You can still blow a 02 up, its not a 100% cure all.
personally, I dont think you can go wrong with any of them 98-02, I would say the most refined year and capable of most bolt on mods with least amount of work would be the 2001

Come on guys, no more fighting over this. The 129 HP was Aircraft Mechanic's numbers on that day, under those circumstances, with his sled in whatever condition it is in -- great, good, fair, or whatever.
Heck, I bet my Mt Viper with near 4000 miles on it with stock rings, pistons, etc. has lost some gusto also! Now before anybody rips, someday I will freshen her up, but not today. Not my point anyways....
I'm sure good tuners like Tony who keep their engines fresh and updated will have much higher HP numbers. That is just intuitive. Likewise, probably most stock SRX's HP numbers coming off the line were lower than the boasted upon number. Shoot, I've heard lot's of talk on here about one sled being a "fast one," and some other guy's being a "slower one."
But I think we can all agree that all SRX's were (and still are) awesome and a freaky fast sled!!!!
