track clipping question

track clipping question, NEED HELP!!!!

Just finished opening all my windows of my 144 camoplast track i got off a polaris. i also got a set of 8t anti ratcheting drivers. its currently clipped every 3rd. Do i honestly have to clip every window?? i'm looking at at least 72 clips + the tool. thats well over $150 for all that. Whats the purpose of the clips? could i just install ice scratchers instead to cool the slides down??

no, you don't have to. i bought a track for my mountain sled with anti ratchet drivers, (yeah its a polaris i know), but the track had every 3rd window closed also. i cut them out and ran it for 5 years, not a single problem. guys on a race team told me the clips weren't needed, they are only to make the track a little more slippery in low snow condition. you'll be fine, i rode that sled here in mn too...
 
oh man, i got two guys telling me two completly different things. please, i need to know if i gotta shell out more money for a new track.
 
you don't need them! if your worred about the windows tearing, they wont. they are still primarily driven by the crack drive cogs, and when the track gets loose, then the extroverts come into play. but think how many of the drivers are through the windows, they will always be in contact with metal track clips. your fine without!
 
The real question is how much trail riding will be done. In general a Mtn sled has its track replaced as often as the sliders, clips are not an issue. Trail sleds need slides replaced and sometimes the clips will wear out faster than the track itself (sand/dirt in snow) If your riding a sled on ANY packed trail In MI you are riding in sand or dirt as well. Mi trails will need all clips on a track for best track/clip/slide life.
 
sounds like im just going to run the track as is, maybe next year i'll upgrade tracks. thanks for all your input guys.
 
yeah, you will be perfectly fine.

i've also never worn out track clips in MN either, and thats with some tracks over 8000 miles. the track was never fully clipped to begin with, as every 3rd window was closed, which means no clips there. the only difference is your letting more snow in... not sure why guys would tell you that you need the clips saying your slides will wear out faster.

my stock pro x trail sled came with every 3rd window closed...slide wear was no issue. again, only difference if you cut the holes for your drivers. big deal...

Putting clips on is my advice. I had a mm and put extros on it and opened all the winsdows myself and didnt clip the track. It was all fine until i found out that the extro's have a tendency not to slip out of the windows easily when theres no clips and i ended up sucking the track up in the front and the suspension rails went through the track. Hence the antistab kits out.
And i did little to no trail riding. Growing up in the u.p of mich i know how hot slides get with minimal snow. Just another reason to clip it. Slides and clips are cheap, tracks are not. Thats my opinion.
