95 vmax 600 vs 89 583

quick question to the more knowledgable members.i just bought a 95 vmax 600 st,love the looks of it,my brother has an 89 mach 1 583 and cant wait to run against my max.i live in "ski doo" country and i am the only one with a yamaha so i've been taking some fun razing(583,670,700,470).is this 583 going to blow the skis off my max or are they full of it?i havn't ridden sleds since the late 70s early 80s on elans and polaris colts and i'm getting back into sleds this year and they have come along way since those days,and a little brotherly riverly is always fun.
 
It will be close,, but I think the doo will better you on the top end..... sorry. Now my tuned 2003 600 venture with a passenger on back will pass a 98 583 on top end,,but it's a triple....
 
i have seen some very fast vmax600 set up right 155kph and thats 220lb rider across the lake hard packed short track. if ur clutchings not right and ur not running twin pipes then the doo will run u .
 
You can take him if your clutching is right, new belt and good track, pics ....... Those old doo's can run. Twin pipe's and you will walk him for sure, but you loose reliabilty. does the 583 have RAVE? Then i think he might get you.
 
The 89 Mach 1 was the first year of the mach1 and it was a turd. One guy I work with bought one brand new that yr,another coworker an 89 plus which was detuned from the 88 version.One other coworker bought an 89 650 wildcat that year.We were all at a pond with perfect conditions.We had heard all fall how fast the new Mach was going to be.He could barely bet the 89 plus,and the wildcat forget it th mach wasnt even close. I also bought a 95 600 Vmax brand new in the fall of 94 orderd in spring. I could run right beside 92 Indy 650,I beat a 617 Mach 1 never ran a wildcat 650. Iwas all stock. I say you beat him easily. They werent like the newer 583's In fact I think they called them a 580
 
thanks guys,i'm sure we will all have fun fine tuning to get that little edge over the other guy,but just in case i will have a couple of excuses ready!!can't wait for snow thanks again.
 
cool, just curious. It seems we have a few members here from NB. By my best estimates there must be at least 8 or 10 of us. Im from the Fredericton area. Good luck with the 600, I have a '94 500 and I love it. Tough as nails! I hope you can outrun that mach.
