2000 SXR 700 Cheap Mod Questions

Hey everyone I was wondering about the over rev caused from doing all of the cheap mods for the SX styled motor which to fix requires re clutching. So far I have done the silencer modification and am now thinking about the air box and reed stopper notch mods. Between the three of these mods, will I need to re clutch and also does the air box modification result in worse gas mileage as a result of the increased air flow and richer jetting? Thanks.

Yes you will get some worse gas mileage as a result of the air box mod, you are packing more fuel and air into the engine.... But your mileage won't drop a ton until you add pipes.

From what I've heard, the jetting is really touchy after doing the airbox mod. I was thinking about doing it a couple years ago and was advised against it by several people all said the same thing, that after a while of trying to ge the jetting right, they went back to a stock (unmodded) airbox. So I never tried it. Do the other mods though and you will probably need to re-clutch.

Alright thanks, and between just the reed stopper notch and the silencer modification I shouldn't need re clutching correct?

It may overev a little with that stuff done, you'll probably need a apex/rx-1 51/43 helix and 4.5 gram rivets in the inner holes of your clutch weights to dial it in.

If its a factory helix you'll be fine, but if its aftermarket it will be much more aggressive from what I've been told on here.

Alright thanks for the info everyone and I just came to find out the sled already has reed spacers so I guess I don't need to do the reed stopper notch now... the sled also has a bender racing secondary clutch I'm not sure why the previous owner would take out the stock one...

Sleddineair, I am glad you put that piece in there about the air box mod, I was looking at doing it to mine, but the 3hp gain isn't worth a finicky sled.....

why all u guys worried about messing around with the air box any time u can get more air u do it ,u dont whant 2 mess with jetting then put holtzmantemp compensator installed inside ur air box that adjusts for altitude and temp, and that can be a gutted air box like mine and after market pipes with the vforce3 reeds and spacers, that set up with holtzman temp compensator works very well never jet ride in -35 @ 2500ft to 8000 ft and i use less fuel than a lot of 4 strokes allso ,im talking yami four stroke i got a 2010 with the hi tec fuel tank for a ride in the mountains i come back empty run my tripple mountain max with all the goodies come back with 1/2 tank , AL

I like the Holtzman temp comp idea.. can others with SXR's using Holtzman and Pipes let me know they are getting decent fuel range? Without the holtzman, and pipes etc I am getting around 75 miles per tank.
