i have a 2001 srx 700 and was curious about head shaving from hauck or another shop is it a worthy upgrade and will the extra compression take a toll on anything or make it finicky also wondering who else does machine work or porting

When shaving those heads be very careful of bad gas! Can cause detonation and destroy your engine

I have the same sled and had Hauck do a head mod and it worked great.
Give mrviper a pm on the work he does, from whats said on the forums he does excellent work on these engines

I can do the head work and port work. Adding more compression will require higher octane fuel. As long as the compression is within reason of the fuel being used and the port edges properly chamfered and the porting overall done right, the motor should be just as reliable as before. My sleds are ported and they work just fine.

i always took 15th off squish and 15 th off head mating surface all this does is bring dome closer for safer higher compression with not as much chance of detination

doesnt the dcs protect against some detentation how much can you gain on the head mod without running race gas and do u have any prices

Mopar - What would you suggest he run for head chamber cc, Squish dimension, Squish angle, fuel required. Lastly what would he get for HP?

Jamsf1984, has got to tell us what octane fuel he has available by him on the trails, before we say what cc heads to run.

If you cut off the band angle, the same amount you cut-off the mating surface, you would have increased the squish velocity of the head, a good amount. Reducing the squish clearance and increasing squish area, will yield higher squish velocities. I would guess around 28msv for your heads now.

i always run at least premium in it im trying to gain some power and keep it reliable if i ran some octane boost and premium would that help and will the dcs help it from detinating if you get bad gas

If you have the SRX 2001 I don't think you have DCS. Wasn't DCS only on the 2002?
Mopar - MSV - Maximum squish velocity. Do you have the software?

in some areas 91 octane seems to be called "premium", where in other areas 92 or 93 octane is "premium". so what octane number do you run, and a little FYI......octane boosters are junk and a waste of $$$$.

yes, dcs was only on the 2002 srx. '01 srx did not have it. yes mac, i have the software. TSR to be exact.
Canadian 91 octane is premium fuel. Shell v-power is he best we have. NO ETHENOL.

where in at in illinois its generally 91 or 92 with up to 10% ethanol im not sure what it is in the up of michigan where we ride what can i do with that

w/the available fuel that you have to run where you ride, i would play it safe, and you could run the same setup as me:
heads just shaved .005"-.007" to give .055"-.057" squish clearance, 20.8cc trapped volume, 12.15:1 UCCR, 6.59:1 CCR, 22.1 msv @ 8500 rpm. this is safe for 89-90 octane fuel. i've had no issues w/mine. if a guy knew he was getting truly 93 octane or whatever, well then you can cut more off.

how big of a differance are you seeing with this mod

w/a simple .005"-.007" flatcut, you won't really notice it. too hard to tell on a butt dyno. if you were to step compression all the way up to being race gas worthy, you would notice a difference, w/your butt and on the tach.
the difference from a stock head, to one that's flatcut .005"-.007", is probably like the difference from stock reeds to carbon fiber petals on stock cages. it helps, but you can't really tell from the butt dyno.

22,1 msv sounds high? I'm only got around 15 msv when i calculated mymopar1rules said:w/the available fuel that you have to run where you ride, i would play it safe, and you could run the same setup as me:
