1.25 ripsaw under a viper?

Ok, i was trying to avoid writing this and finding the info on past posts but there is a ton of conflicting info. I have an '03 viper er. i got it with a 1.25 121 ripsaw under it (no studs). I have a 9t driver. It has factory tunnel protectors and factory hx protectors. I can see where the track was rubbing a bit on the hx protectors. It isnt real bad but there werent very many miles on that setup (less than 300 i think). I bought it this spring and put a hartman 136 kit on it. Im about to put the new 136 1.25 ripsaw track back in and i only want to do it ONCE. (well Im not looking forward to even th one time i guess :)

My questions:
do I need to cut either of the protectors out? If i do is the hx easy?
do i need to "notch" the track by the windows?
can I put studs in with the 9t driver?
if im not going to stud it, can I just take the all protectors out? will that solve all my problems?

just knock off the front heat exchange protectors..

if u want to run studs you need 8 tooth with a 1.25 but leave protectors on

notching the track??? if you go with anti-ratchet drivers you need a fully clipped track.
 
We have the exact set up you do, Hartmand extension 136 ripsaw and complete protectors still intact. Wheh I installed the 1.25 ripsaw. I noticed it rubbing on the protectors. I simply used a tire grooving iron to notch the track where the protectors are. I cut .25 off by about 1.25 across. This give more than enough clearance. I hot knife will work also. Took let than 1/2 hr. Good luck Al
 
X 3 here. I actually had to do it with a one inch track. I just used tile knippers and notched it where the protectors are. You dont want to remove them protectors up front if you want to stud some day. They are a pain to get back on. Have a hole in a exchanger to prove it. LOL. CCC

Well that debate has been beat to death. Do a search. If you stud a 1.25 with 9th drivers you will be sitting on the side of the trail at some point with a pretty green puddle behind you. If you stud go with 8th drivers. CCC

Yup thats it. Not sure how much but trim a little and check clearence, and go from their. You will really like that track. Depending on the riding you do you may not need studs. I ride the river a lot so its a must for me. It may be worth your time to put a want add in the classifieds and see if anyone has the whole 8th shaft and drivers together for sale. Wont cost you much and then if you want to stud in the future you are set. You most likely wont have to regear depending on your riding style. My sled is not regeared with the 8th drivers and no difference noted. CCC
 
post a want AD in the classifieds. or give rich a call @ rich motorsports. He is a preferred site vendor on here
 
we just let my brothers sled wear in. have had no problems but you have the right area to trim if you want to. his is basically the same set-up as yours. you might even be lucky like he is and not have to re-clutch. what was scary was we did not even have to re-clutch for the 760 srx bigbore he had in there last season.
 
I ran my Viper with a notched and studded ripsaw for 3-3500 miles without any issues.Other then it was noticeably louder from the track rubbing the protectors ,mostly when decelerating.
Also, the studs a ran only cleared the lugs by about 3/16-1/4 inch. I wouldnt run anything with more penetration because of the limited clearence.

I didnt have the same luck with the Camo Predetor 1 1/4" lug track. Noticed a few new nicks in the HX, so I started modifying the HX protectors, that didnt go so well!! :o|
Although It did open the opportunity to ride BlueEyes' new 09 XTX for a day! Now I own one of them too!! (thx OnlyBlue) ;)!
Oh yeah, Maims brother got to ride my old SRX that day too. Better then sitting at the hotel all day ;)!
 
i still owe you a beer for that. it ran great and you are right about it being better than sitting in the hotel.
