Wondering what damage is done if any, if regular octane fuel is used in sled. When in Canada, not sure if I can always obtain premium fuel.

Running low octane fuels can cause detenation, which will result in engine failure(your sled is going to go BOOM). You may need to carry bottles of octane boost to offset the lower octane pump gas.
Others will chime in and give you a better understanding.

Don't run regular in your SRX! These sleds are fairly high compression and you run the risk of burning the engine down by causing detonation which is caused when the fuel pre-ignites due to poor octane ratings and or water in the fuel. Now take into account that many gas stations have higher and higher methanol content, now you are begging for trouble. By straying from premium you are almost guaranteeing disaster, because even premium is becoming marginal with the methanol...methanol absorbs water and causes the fuel quality to quickly diminish...causing detonation...causing piston seizure.

i hope you dont mind me pointing out that gas now contains ethanol. but your right it does absorb water faster than gas without it.

If you can only run regular sell the srx & buy the redhead triple. You will detonate & take out an SRX engine either running regular &/or strate 9es plugs.

I've been to every province in Canada, with the exception on the two territories and I have never been anywhere where supreme fuel was not available.

It,s a differnt story when your out in the boonies like me. Even the premium has probably aged to less the 87 octane.

In Northwestern Ontario there are some trailside "lone" fuel stations that don't have Premium but most of the towns have the name brand stations with 91 octane fuel.
My DCS goes off above 3/4 throttle when I am forced to fuel up at some stations with questionable fuel EVEN when its supposed to be premium!!

just curious turk, how running br9es plugs in a srx, will cause a engine failure?

The es,s burn too hot & i have seen a few of em go down running this plug on a cold day on a long hard pull. They run a lot hotter then the stock 10 ecs. Spend the dough & run the 9 ecs.

I see. I run BR9ES plugs in my srx and have had no issues, but then again, my jetting is probably rich enough, where its not causing a burn down. Its weird that a BR9ES plug would run hotter than a BR9ECS plug, as they are both "9" and should be the same heat range??

What would be considered "high octane"? 91 or 93? If 91 is good is 91 better in an otherwise stock '01 SRX? I have a Sunoco station near my house that has 93 octane so if need be I would just fill up a bunch of cans there

91 is good, thats all I run in mine, if however you can get 93 it wouldnt hurt... the only problem is the price lol, and the age of the gas. Ive never had any issues with fuel/detonation in mine but i've only ever ran 91 or higher.

JOSH, I JUST WENT TO BR8ECS IN MY 2000 SRX WITH RACE BOX AND NEEDLES RAISED TO RICHEST SETTING. SLED BEEN GIV,EN ME SOME STARTING ISSUES WITH BR9ECS. WE ALSO BEEN USEING THEM IN A 600 SRX WERE RUNNING ON GRASS WITH NO ISSUES. 3:16 (yammie tony)

The ecs has a different electrode that helps resist detonation.

why would the electrode have anything to do detonation? I have always been told that heat and flash point of the fuel are the issues causing detonation
