I have started my engine transplant in my 98 Vmax 600 SX twin. A few years ago I had the ring catch on the exhaust port twice after using pistons that had the pin problem (learned of that one a little too late). Anyways this summer I picked up a complete engine that has 4000 miles on it and 1000 on a top end rebuild. I am in the process of putting that in my sled.
Thanks to Rich's Motorsports he lives close and got me a clutch puller very quickly. I have pulled the primary, sent it through the dishwasher and removed the cover. I was told when i bought this sled that the clutch had been modified for low end acceleration and not top speed. This is exactly what I want.
Pulling the clutch cover it looks like I have a white - silver - white. I'm not really sure. Its definitely silver in the middle. I have 8AB weights with two rivets (not sure which ones). Not sure if this is a good set-up or not.
Second with the cover off I have a little play in the moveable shieve. Enough I can fit a 0.0025 feeler guage in between the graphite slides and the slide channel. If I put the cover on there is virtually no play. Is this OK or is my moveable shieve bushing going?
Third, rollers spin pretty freely, they don't spin for a long time maybe a count of 3. The weights have a very slight flat spot where the rollers sit but it's not real bad I would think. I guess not having ever torn a clutch apart I don't know what is good and what's not. When the sled originally went down I wasn't having clutch issues, but I don't want to this year either.
If anyone has some insight, I could use the help.
Thanks,
Kevin

you need a clutch rebuild.. that wear and tear you describe sounds typical for a yamaha twin as they are rough on clutches. talk to your dealer for a rebuild kit
