Just bought a 1994 vmax 600 st for my son(standard clutch, slp pipes,160 main jet and 50 idle jet). I have check the carbs they are clean everything seems to be adjusted righ apart from the air screw that is on the side of the ventury it was at 1/2 a turn and i set it at 1 turn, and i must tell you that the clutch is weak it engages at around 3000 rpm. thats it for setting now here comes the problem, the sled starts great no prob you take off and its got good acceleration you can take it to top end no problem and as long as you stay at high rpm it runs fine but as soon as you let of the throttle and then try to go again it starts to run bad wont go over 4000 rpm sometimes if you play with the throttle a bit then it will go again but mostly it stays there until you stop and let the rpms go back down to 1500 rpm. I have tried disconnecting the TORS system no difference. What could be the problem.

Please help!!!

the 94's were known to have a weak spider in the primary and were prone to breakage, as well as extreme wear on the roller bushings. open up the clutch and rule out or verify condition. secondary could be sticking open as mentioned previously by sleddinair not allowing a backshift.

I would bet its the primary clutch cover and movable bushings worn and now binding up,3000 engaugment is way to low for those pipes.

Thanks for all youre replys ...I look at the rollers and yes they are wore out i need to get a rebuild kit for the primary the secondary looks fine. Iwill change these parts first and then try it again.

Thanks again everyone!!

had to get a rebuild kit the clutch was pootched

Thanks guys it was a clutch problem :) got a rebuild kit for it and now it seems to be ok but i got another question?

got a new spring std blue yellow blue spring , but forgot to tell the dealer that i had SLP pipes on the sled and that it was rejetted now do you think it will affect the performance and or will it damage somthing... the spring that was in there was purple
