quick question. just purchased, 2000 sxr 700. Previous owner had i believe 2 inch bar risers installed last season...Sled is giving me idle issues, it wont stay running unless i keep choke open... I have apt at my local mechanic in two weeks, he is real good and reliable, he said that it might have something to do with the throtle cable or choke cable being routed wrong or too tight due to the risers, previous owner said it wouldnt idle right and backfired like crazy once he had the risers installed.
My question is, as im sure its a quick and cheap fix, is what exactly do the bar risers do for me? I ride groomed trails 95% of the winter, I dont do alot of standing... im just wondering if i should have him remove the 2 inch riser and go back to the factory height, as i still have the old piece...I never rode a sled with a riser on it.... will it be uncomfortable sitting down on the trails? or will two inches be more comfortable? i always hear that risers are for hitting the bumps and standing up, which i just dont do, i dont want to tire my arms out......thanks for the suggestions......

A 2" riser should not be problem. I have 3-3 1/2 on mine and no trouble at all. First only running with choke on and backfire says pluged pilot jets in carbs. Clean them carbs. Once thats done make sure all cables are moving freely and not bound anywhere. Then set idle, adjust throttle to 2mm play to keep torrs happy. Check tech setion for the how to's on carbs. Very easy. Im glad you have a dealer you can trust but they still charge a arm and your first born for what you can do yourself. CCC

crap
i hope if it was a plugged jet, he didnt burn down the piston...He said it would backfire like crazy, and took like 10 min to warm up, but once he opened it up, it ran fine all day long.. seems strange..good sled, motor only has 1300 miles on it(not that that means much) but i hope i didnt purchase a lemon with scorched pistons...

I would say you did no damage. Get those carbs off and get them clean. Get all the jets out and clean good with carb cleaner and air. If your worried check compression. What did the plugs look like. Not a real good indicator seeing its new to you and such but if brown, black should be fine. White, BAD.
