SRX 600 gas/fuel pump ?

Hello All,

Quick question. I want to verify my fuel pump is functioning. If I have the carbs out and I pull the motor over should the fuel pump be pulling gas out of the tank and pushing it out of the lines?

I had recently took the carbs out to clean and put everything back in my sled. After quite a few pulls it seems like gas is not getting to the carbs now. I would like to test the fuel pump to verify this. The tank is over half full with 93 octane. Never had an issue before. Thanks for any advice. Much appreciated.

My 2002 SRX was like that even when I replaced the fuel pump, yet it ran fine.[although hard to start after sitting a long time] Last season I put a 700SX fuel pump on it and interestingly it now pumps fuel out of the carb lines when you pull it over and also starts much better after a sitting for a long time...don't know if mine is an isolated case or typlical????

That is an interesting thought. My old Yamaha XLV 540 (1986) will leak gas right through the fuel pump so if you pull the carbs you'd better have something to put to stop the fuel line from leaking. Amazingly my old '86 I have starting with one pull after I rebuilt the second cylinder and replaced the carburetor. The main different came with replacing the carb.

I guess for now I will just pour a little gas in the cylinders and get her to fire up and hopefully it will start pulling gas to the carbs.

I will also check the pulser line too.

you can check it with your mouth.....and it does sound dirty!!! The pump is a diaphram style pump, so to get gas to flow, you need to suck then blow quickly (and repeat) in order to get the diaphram to pulse...but yes, once its primed and you have the supply lines removed from the carbs, they should leak gas/oil mix, as the motor turns.

After sitting all summer, here's what I do

I get my impact gun and use it and a long socket to turn the primary for a good minute or so....after that long, the fuel pump is normally primed, and carb bowls are full. Turn on key, and smell the 2-stroke perfume
