Rivet question

Im rebuilding the primary clutch on m 99 VAMX sx 500

Tomseal6 has been a huge help in showing me what i need to get everything back to stock.

i know that the rivets in my clutch weights are 10.3 and 13.9


The only thing Tom and I could not find is whether i should use aluminum or steel rivets for the 10.3

If anyone could offer some insite as to whether i should use steel or aluminum it would be greatly appreciated

Go to stock specs in tech and if it say (al) beside it it aluminium. If not its steel
 
I dont think it specified, we know that it was steel for the 13.9 but i delive it didnt mention a preference for the 10.3
 
Somebody in the past has had the clutch apart before. His 8CR weights that are destroyed have no rivets in them and are empty on both holes. There was a different primary spring in there from stock. I'm just helping him put his sled back together to "stock specs" (up and running) and then he can go from there when he decides to experience different clutch set-ups

That sounds pretty logical. If it does not specify then its probably the steel 10.3
 
tony. I think the conclusion is to go with the 10.3 steel. It did not specifically say to use the AL in the tech section for stock specs. The altitude you ride at will have a large impact on how you set up your clutches although we did not talk about that. Generally speaking higher altitudes with tons of snow especially going up hills, you will want to run less weight in your primary to get your RPM's correct. Its all a game of tuning but tune our sled for the riding you do the most of.
 
Thanks for clearing that up crewchief.. I did not know Port Yamaha had a fiche. Looks like its more specific then Yamaha motor
