help please 01 srx no spark

Hey guys I'm new to the forum and hoping that you guys can help. I have a 2001 srx 700 triple that I purchased last year. I rode it all winter with no problems and cleaned it up and put it away for the summer. I puilled it out the other night to get it ready for the season when ........ no spark. I tried everything I could think of I cleaned the grounds up thought they might have been corroded but they are good, I checked the key switch and the kill switch/ throttle switch, checked all push plugs for a loose connection or corrosion everything looks fine. My friend was just over and checked it out and we figured out that the stator is putting out voltage but its not getting to the coils.Its probably something very simple but I'm a newbie to this sport.Its very strange that it ran perfect and just from sitting for a couple months it has no spark?Any help would be much appreciated. possible cdi box check all the easy stuff first,all the wires for critter bites and check the wiring harness that runs under the motor . SRX's had problems with this wiring harness
 
Thanks for the fast response!!! Me and my friend both believe that it is the cdi box as well. Its just very weird that it stopped working for no reason. I have a friend with a 01 sxr that we are gonna see if its the same box and try his first before I commit to buying one. I found one on ebay for 225 but I would like to make sure before I spend that and find out its something different. I checked all the wires for shorts and everything seems good. Thanks again for your quick response ill keep you posted on what it ends up being.
 
Just to make sure, you actually pulled the harness out from under the motor and inspected it?? If you do a search on harness rub through, you'll get lots of reading. And before you pull that harness out of there, make sure you tie a rope or something to the end so that you can pull it back through.

If you did all that already, sorry for the interruption and carry on. ;)!

ok. so my friend brought over a working cdi box plugged it in nothing. traced out all harnesses no rub throughs, took the fly wheel and cleaned some rust off of it nothing. with test light im getting power out of the stator on all 3 wires, from there to the rectifier out to the key switch and back to the cdi is lit up. then when i try and get a light out to the coils nothing to them . im not sure on which way to go with this sled other than to craigslist! any other input would be great thanks.
 
You have 3 wires that come out of the stator for the charge coil. Produces power when running but you also have the pick-up coil. It controls spark. Find the harnesss plug located close to your harness plug for the 3 white wires coming form stator. The wires should be white/green and white/red. Do a reistance test across these 2 wires to see if your coil measures within spec. Should be 189-231 ohms at room temp. I had one go on a 2000 SRX and had no spark. Hope this helps.
