Finally pulled the sled out today to get it going after putting in new gas. Ran great for 30 seconds then it wouldn’t idle. Figured this would happen but I just wanted to try. Back into the garage and pulled the carbs off for cleaning and had a bit of trouble.

First thing to go wrong was a split o-ring on the fuel screw. Dash off to the dealer and picked up 3. Glad they had them in stock.

I was really surprised how bad the pilots were blocked. I used a wire to unplug them and it took a while to get the first 2 opened up. On the 3rd one the problems started. The wire I was trying to open it with broke off inside the jet. Worked on getting it out for half an hour until I managed to break off the bottom of the jet. Grrr!!!

Back to the dealer where the book calls for 42.5 jets and he doesn’t have any, and he said he can no longer order that size. He wants to sell me 40s but I decide to wait and try another dealer tomorrow. Hope it goes better then today cause carb-cleaning aint supposed to take 2 days!!

If it is really true that the 42.5 are not to be had can anyone make a suggestion as to what size to change to? I normally like to keep my sled factory stock. If I do have to make a change I would want it to be a “safe “ change. I mostly just trail ride in the UP.

Got it going and it seems to run great. Dealer 5 miles away didn’t have one. Dealer 15 miles away didn’t have one. Dealer 40 miles away had lots so I got 2.

Standard Mikuni pilots. Any motorcycle shop should have them.

*Just for future reference, in case you need to track down some more, or different sizes.*

Was going to maake the suggestion to buy the 40 pilot jet and get a pin-vise and a # drill and drill to the same size as the other two, or buy 45 pilots and turn down the fuel screw.
