Just finished cleaning the carbs on my wifes XTC 600. Fired her up, she sounded good. hopped on and I'll be damned if the handle bars didn't almost come off in my hands. The steering column is cracked right at the point where the top of the shaft and the handle bar mounting plate are welded. Sure glad it happened to me in my yard and not to my wife running down some trail. What is involved in changing out the steering column? Does the motor have to come out? Could this possibly be welded on the sled? Just trying to decide a direction of least hassle, thanks guys

Weld it. I repaired a couple now with no problems. Just fill your gas tank up as full as you can and then wash it down. Cover the area with a wet blanket or sheet, and weld away. (Fill the tank because gas fumes are more dangerous than gas itself)

yes do as Maddogg said and you shouldn't have a problem, i have welded a couple of those without any problems
