Srx hyfax help!!!!!

If the hyfax wears completely away, and the metal that the hyfax go onto wear away in certain sections. Can this be fixed? Or do you need to replace the whole metal piece that the hyfax goes onto?

My girlfriend and I are cleaning up and working on this 98 srx 700, it was her fathers, who passed away this past spring break.

Any help would be appreciated.
 
Generally to fix it right you'll need to replace the rail (the piece of metal the hyfax goes onto). Post some pictures of the damage, that will help. I had to replace the rails on my sled a couple years ago, because the seller just put new hyfaxes on over the damaged rails, they aren't cheap new, but you usually find someone who has them used for a reasonable price. I have an old skid that I'm parting out, but someone has already asked me for the rails, if they need them, otherwise I would sell them to you.
 
yup replace it ....worn our rite were the bend flattens out is it ?? i bought a sled and someone replaced the metal the hyfax slides on ....did a great job ...but the rail broke rite in fron of the fix ....

Do you know how much the two rails will be from the dealer?

Worn on both sides at the bend. The bend where the track comes down and flattens out. The inside and outside of both sides is worn probably 6-10 inches everywhere

In order to prevent this from happening again, I would want to know why this happened?

I take it you bought the sled like that and the previous owner has no information on how it got like that?? Was it rode in no or low snow conditions for a period of time? If the rails are worn through as bad as you say, it was neglected and has been doing that for quite some time

I would look into skid adjustment maybe tighten up the limiter straps a few millimeters and install 5.35 wheels that replace the stock 5.125 inchers. It will take a great deal of load off the hyfax
 
Read my first post. I am 20 years old and this sled was my girlfriends dads. He passed away this past spring break. So I'm trying to fix this sled up for my girlfriend to ride. Sled is in good condition besides this. Yrs the hyfax was neglected and by the looks of it, the hyfax has been gone for some time. Needs new rails, new hyfax, and some new track clips. Rear skid is fine.
 
New track clips? Those clips have to get pretty hot in order to fail and fall off the track. There has something wrong in the way the skid is set. I would have to guess there is too much pressure on the front part of the skid. Can be adjusted by loosening the skid front shock all the way and then tighten limiter straps evenly to relieve some pressure off the track. Tighten the shock spring preload back to what is was before you made strap adjustments.

I hate this problem on the pro-action skids. This seems to be where most of the complaints came from in premature hyfax failure
 
Sled has 42xx miles and might be original hyfax or 2nd set. The track clips need to be replaced because they were rubbing on the rails for so long without hyfax
 
Hope you can get it fixed. Can you post some pics of the damage when you get it apart?

You can set these up with the adjustments and bigger wheels and never worry about hyfax wear again
 
Ya, track clips don't last long without the hyfax......... neither do the slide rails.....
 
I'll try to get pictures but won't be for a few weeks since I just brought my nytro home to work on it.
Hopefully I can get the srx done before the snowmobile season.
