Cleaned up the carbs on the 97 SX and put on new gas line. As I was running the sled without the airbox, I noticed exhaust would come back out the intake side of the carb. This was only noticable on the pto side and not on the other 2 cylinders. Is this something to be worried about? I only have 100 miles on the rebuild.

Ya, id be concerned! It's probably not exhaust, but rather a fuel mist being blown out of the carb. Check the reeds, and check the carb for flooding due to stuck inlet needle, or choke.

Thanks for the quick response dwarf, I'll will be sure to check those things out in the morning.

Just one of many reasons I love this site. ;)!

And what do you mean by inlet needle? As in where it attaches to the float?
Also is it possible I may have spark issues? Although it seems to idle and run fine. So this leads me to think that would be the last thing causing it.

my guess is the reed has a chip in it or not closing fully ....yes the needle attached to the float..... but my guess thats not it cause you would see gas flowing out the over flow tube and on the floor if it was the needle ...pull the reed cages and hold them up to the light and see if there are any gaps were u can see light comming thru ...and look for chips missing or what looks like seperation of the petal...usually the center petal is the one that is chipping

Are you sure you didn't see it on the other two?? triples by nature do this(spit back, fuel mist) it's normal.

Yes my 99 sx 600 spits back, I would check but like Daman said, normal. That is why we all find oil puddles in the airbox.

You have other sleds right ? Compare with the other ones, I bet they do it also.

You guys could be right, because honestly I've never ran the sleds without the airboxes before.

And Daman, maybe the other 2 were doing it and just because of the lighting I couldn't see them. I'll do some more looking.

Reeds looked good when I had them off before putting the carbs on.
Needle and float seemed to move freely when I was cleaning the carbs.
The chipped reeds are more known on the Vipers. I've never had a chipped reed on a redhead.
