Hey guys I am about to go insane!!! haha Okay so I toasted my suspension in my 01 srx so I bought a complete skid from a guy who said it was for an 01 srx...well after getting into it I noticed the front shock has a different spring but the shock body was the same! So problem solved, I put my old shock in.. Just to be sure it was the same as before...well after getting about done with putting it in I noticed that the threaded rod(where the middle bolts go into when bolting it up in the tunnel) was stripped out!! So problem solved again, I put my old rod and wheels in...but I noticed the srx rod is a little longer??? Is there something I am missing or should this skid work???

are you talking about the transfer rods? i'm almost sure srx transfer rods are different than an sx. more travel on a sx.If you use your own rods and shocks there shouldn't be an issue. I bought a sx viper skid and the shocks on a viper are longer and have more travel, hense a better ride. Srx was designed for low hardpack trails and lakes. Most everybody that use these machines for trail riding swap out the no action suspension.Try the online diagram pages on the bottom of homepage. hope this helps.

Honestly it should fit right back into your sled. If that middle shaft came out of your srx....then it will go back in even though it might seem tight, its normal. As far as the front shock goes....its probably an upgraded shock and you should put it back in. I got a free viper shock and put that in my skid. Same mount to mount dimension just more coil in the spring. Make sure you grease all your points before putting it back in. Way easier out than in! good luck

if the transfer rod is longer on your 01 srx skid then the "other" you skid you bought means it came from a earlier srx98-99 or a sx which is the same short travel skid. Yamaha updated the rear mounting point for better transfer on the 2000-02 srx. You can either simply drill a new hole for the bottom of the transfer rod to bolt to or use the sx rods,I assume you have adj. rods on your previous 01 skid?

Guys, i think he is talking about the aluminum rear cross shaft being longer than the cross shaft in the skid that he bought...yamaha721 clear this one up.

Yes thats correct, i am talking about the shaft!!! When you bolt the skid up, theres 3 bolts to a side, and its the shaft the middle bolts go into. I used my transfer rods also to clear that up! Thanks for the info everybody!

they are all the same except the rx1 if my memory is correct, it was a hair bit differnt, all the rest of the proaction ones, sx,srx, viper, sxr should all be the same one. Betheviper would know 100% for sure, he is the swap king and has a huge knowledge of it.

double check me on this by looking up the part numbers, or asking betheviper.

Ya I look up the shaft for my sled and a sx and the shaft is a different price so im assuming its a little different, but everything else was the same which doesn't make sense why two different shafts are made for the same skid... also pm'd betheviper!

OH ya, the tracks is a 1 1/4in. ripsaw track so that shaft wouldn't have been changed for that right?

bracing

Some of the older Srxs had heavier tunnel bracing on the inside which made the shafts slightly shorter but only 1/8 of an inch or so

ya im off a little more than that...i just don't get this at all...i have taken my skid out numerous times and never had problems but this has me stumped why it wont fit

it sounds to me that someone may hay have swapped out the original aluminum shaft. It's possible it could be a 16 inch aluminum rod from a ski doo. Maybe somebody was trying to put the skid in a 16 inch tunnel. measure your tunnel inside and check your new to old. maybe you can cut the the longer one to fit and rethread it.send some pics of the skids.

OK I will take pics in the morning!!! And yes, one of them is aluminum, the whole shaft, and the one i took out of my srx is aluminum colored on the ends and the middle has goldish coloring.! And I might have found my problem, I will let ya know in the morning..As dumb as it sounds, I think one of the wheels wasn't on far enough so I pounded it on farther and think it'll work!! Let ya guys know tom.! thanks boys

Ok guys I believe ebayfreak was right on the shaft being switched out! I did luckily get it to work finally and everythings good... I was to busy all day messing with it so i didn't have time to take pics but i will tom. for sure of the shafts and let you guys determine what its for!!!! Thanks for all the good info. guys, very much appreciated
