Putting all new bearings on the drive shaft of a 2001 SRX700 and seem to be missing a collar. The shaft has 8t extroverts (if that makes a diff). The OEM microfiche shows that there should be a collar on the axle (driver side of the chaincase bearing) which wasn't there when I tore down. Is there any reason why I wouldn't need it? Am I going to need to give Yamaha 26 bucks for a dang collar? I already ordered the 'all balls' bearing kit from royal distributing but doubt the collar is included in the kit.

For further clarity it is # 30 in the linked OEM Michrofiche

Chaincase parts

Thanks for your expertise.

#30 in the micro fiche looks to be the collar the oil seal runs on? If in fact it is, it should already be on the drive axle on the chaincase side. I didnt realize that the collar was removable, but it does make sense if it is as you'll wear a groove into it over a period of time.

To answer your question, if it is the collar the seal runs on, yes you do need it or you wont be able to keep any oil in the chaincase.

I could be wrong on this, others will chime in if I am...

Good luck!

Are you shure its not stuck on the axle?I think it is a stopper so the axle has something to bottom out on when tightening the gear bolt as well as a seal race!

That is a bushing that spaces your gears to proper chain alignment. the small one goes on the bottom and the larger one goes on top if I remember correctly!! I am wrong here

Like mentioned above that collar is the surface the seal runs on. The O-ring seals it to the shaft (and also helps hold it in place). You should have that inplace, otherwise ice, snow, water and debris will get in your bearing and some oil will get out. It is likely on the driveshaft as the O-ring will hold it there when the chaincase is removed. If not on the driveshaft, did it fall off during disassembly? Hopefully it wasn't run without that in there.

This would likely explain things, the oil seal is there but no collar/bushing. The drive shaft was sliding side to side (through the bearing) and the bolt started to wear a hole in the chain case cover.

I just got the sled and didn't put many miles on last year. The previous owner who installed the extros must have forgotten to put it back in, or it broke out somehow.

Anyway, thanks guys.

Does anyone know where I can get OEM parts other than the stealership? The after market bearing kit was $30 if I had gotten Yamaha parts from the dealer it would have been a $100. So ridiculous!
