I have a 2000 mountain max and I have extremely weak spark. The sled seems to run fine but the spark just looks terrible. Anybody have the specs for the CDI or any idea on what I should check to see if is the problem.

no test for the cdi, but you can check the resistance on the caps and coils. also test the stator output and the condenser.

I noticed this problem last fall and I had decided that it was the stator that was the problem but after changing out the stator I still have the same problem. I also checked the resistance in the plugs and wires at that time and everything seemed to be within yamaha spec.

If it runs fine...it must be OK. It is very hard to visually check the output of any ignition system. A problem with weak ignition output almost always shows up in running/starting issues before you can visually detect it.

How much rust did you notice on the flywheel magnets?? If there is some build up this may hinder your spark making abilities. (Just a thought)

That pesky rusty flywheel magnets were my problem intermittant spark weak spark or no spark rusty conntacts.
I replaced my stator 1 year ago then same thing happen this fall looked into it and found more rust on flywheel magnets from storing over the summer lil light sand paper works wonders u can see the magnets as u turn the motor over thru sight hole on top of stator compartment also wipe down fly wheel with fogging oil or light household oil too prevent rust from forming again

pull your sled in the shop, turn off all the shop lights and pull it over... still weak spark?... the magnets on the outside of the flywheel trigger the pickup coil.. (they should be clean and shiny, but, the actual energy for the ignition spark, comes from a stator coil winding... if it's running fine, you likely haven't a problem... tj
