Ok So I had 5 extra minutes last night(have a 2month old so time is scarce)
My CDI says 8df-00, and looking at harness going into my coil pack there is 2 black shethed wires goin into each coil, so what does that mean?
Thanks for the help so far

8DF is the prefix for the 1998/99 SRX 600s. There were some people running the 600 CDIs on the 700s as they felt the ignition curve was better for raciing ect.
This would be the same type of ignition as the 1998/99 SRXs...fires all three plugs at the same time.

Also another question if the 8df box I have is a 600 box and better curve for racing is there a risk running this on a 700 trail sled?
Just thoughts opinions

Questions:
!] Does this sled have the single or dual headlight?
2] Is the shelf + dividers still in the airbox?
I don't know if the 600 box is risky in a 700 for trail riding or not...someone else will have to comment on this as I have no experience with this mod.

Sled has single headlight, and right now has complete stock air box with dividers, has bender cold air kit installed in hood but this airbox is not cut up what so ever
On the question of coils:
My 2002 SRX has two primary circuit small wires on each coil. They have a type of braided sheath on them, one is all black, and one is black with white or light grey bands.
I don't know what the 98/99 SRX coil wires look like.

This sure sounds like its a 98/99 set up so I would suggest jetting it like Yamaha recommends with the Richer jet on the Mag side.
But make sure you read your plugs occasionally to ensure everything is right.

Thanks for the info yep my coils sound like they are just like your black sheath one al black one black with light grayish dashes
So can the 00+ coils go with 98/99 cdi do I go based off cdi of coils
Thats the thing with this sled being a past oval ice sled and only being able to run a 600 mod motor well yamaha only made 600 SRX in 98 so there after we always got 700 motor packages from yamaha with full ignitions minus cdi (race cdi) and we raced all thru 2004 so i know there is 00+ parts but which ones Im trying to figure out, cdi wise and harness is from 98 srx600 according to what you have said
So now my concerns are is a 600 cdi ok for trail use on a 700?
And I am not 100% yet on do I put bigger jet on mag or pto unless I were to get verification on coils with what I stated above

no, they also made one in '99. also, i believe turk told me a while back, that the 600 srx cdi box on a 700 srx motor, would yeild too much timing and probably lead to a meltdown.

so now given the opportunity if i am getting a new 700 cdi do i have to go with a 98/99 or can I put on a 2000+ onto my stuff with out anything else
Is there a benefit one way or the other ?

The wiring harnesses are different from the 1998/99 to the 2001/2002...the 2000 CDI is unique to itself. You can NOT plug the 2001/2002 CDIs into a 1998/99 Wiring Harness.
The coils have different Yamaha, as well as Hitachi, part numbers from the 98/99 to the 2000+ SRXs but the resistance values in the specifications are similar...

ill check on the cases where is that part number located?
So basically though I can assume they are 98/99 because I have an 8df srx 600 box now which would have the same plug ins as a 98/99 cdi correct?

The number should be on the top surface of the case just inside where the recoil attaches. The 1998/99 700 SRX CDI should plug in with the same attachments as the 1998/99 600 CDI.

I just went and looked at my 2002 cases and they also say 8DN !!! so obviously that is not the correct way to ID the cases...sorry about that ....I will delete my previous inaccurate post!
You would have to get the complete serial number off of the cases ID by Yamaha to confirm the year of manufacture that way.
