The cooling hose buried under the engine - needs replacement

While I have the carbs and pipes, and power valves off, I am replacing hoses. Of course the worst looking one is the one I can't seem to get to.

It is the hose that that runs down the back side of the engine, past the oil pump, next to the steering shaft. I pulled the 2 motor mounts off and now can almost see the bottom of it but it is impossible to get at.

Any ideas? What does the bottom of this hose connect up to anyway? The motor, or a heat exchanger, or what?

If I take off the rest of the motor mounts, will I be able to tilt / rotate / slide / shift the motor out of the way enough to get at the bottom clamp?

The last thing I want to do is have to yang the motor out.
 
Is there enough room to get at it if I am able to move the motor a little bit one way or the other? Where does this hose go to?
 
the hose goes to the front heat exchanger,can you change it without removing the engine i don't know but you could try and if it doesn't work you will have the engine 3 parts removed anyway .
 
here are some pics for you from both my sleds.One is clean and the SRX pic is dirty.But it shows were that coolant line runs underneath.Hard to get to with motor in place

its a pain in the azz,but has to be done I guess.Take a deep breath and just go for it.Otherwise if you even try to get it off with engine in there(minus a lot of skin off your knuckles) and even can push the new hose on,how will you really know if the hose and clamp will be in the right position without seeing anything.The new hose will be tight going back on.Just getting my pump line in with the motor slightly lifted was not that easy.Was difficult to slide my new coolant line in and then getting pliers in their to move the clamp was another challenge.
 
Oh my God! Wait until I get my hands on the engineer that worked up that clever little design!!!

I plan on doing the top end after this season is over, so it is going to just wait!

They make a spring clamp tool thats on a cable system, dont know if it will help. Those of you that are in the automotive business will know what im talking about. They are a live saver. Mine has got me out of a bind a few times.

While I can understand you wanting to do preventative maintenance, I wouldn't consider hose replacement a PM item. I can't remember replacing any coolant hose on any of my sleds except for a rub through which was caused by incorrect routing.

IMO - The hoses/coolant doesn't see any where near the extreme temps (underhood or coolant) or time in service an automotive application does.

But perhaps I'm not the best person to ask since I don't do any of the recommended PM items on my car/trucks either.

Did you know you can go 300k on the original hoses/belts/coolant/plug wires/fuel filter? That is until one of the welch plugs rot. ;>)
 
I had a little seepage last year that looked like it was coming from the hose off the water pump, so I replaced that one, and was going to replace any others that looked questionable. The one I am referring to looked the worst of all of them, and of course..that is the one I can't get to.
