I am currently trying to put together a sled for my girlfriend to ride...
I picked up a sx with a 500 liquid cooled motor.... Not exactly sure of the year, must be 99 or so...(Motor is stock to best of my knowledge)

Sled has no clutches at all....

I have the old secondary off my srx, i can change the spring and helix and i should be good? Right?

I need a Primary.. I found what is stock on the Tech page... 8CR -00 w/13.9 &10.3....

Problem. Cant find one to buy used... So If i use a Phazer, vmax or soemthing else... What will i be working with???? Any options or advice...

I do not want to be tuning. Just put together and ride and run good!
Thanks in advance for your input.

for the 500 twins you need to use Vmaxjohns set up......while you are getting parts just do this set up.........many many TYers use this set up.

I had it on my moms 99 500 DLX

I found the set up... I have never built a clutch before, i have nothing to start with. I was just wanting to buy a stock set up, just needing to know the difference in performance is between the sxr500 or vmax500 etc??

The motors and clutching should be the same between the VMax 500 and the SxR 500, The power plants are the same the only difference is the suspension. Even if you found a clutch from a bigger motored sled 600-700 The physical shape of the clutch is the same it just has different profile weight arms and possibly different roller sizes.

If you find a clutch and need parts speak up and someone here should be able to help you out.

If you find a clutch the stock settings for the primary clutch are as follows for up to 3500 ft in elevation:
Primary spring PN#: 90501-551L3
Color: B-P-B (Blue- Pink- Blue)
Flyweight Profile: 8DJ00
Inner Rivet: 10.3 (Steel)
Outer Rivet: 13.9 (Steel)
Roller Diameter size :15.6mm

Secondary Clutch
Spring PN# :90508-536A9
Spring Color: Red
Preload 90 (3-6)

Hope some of this info helps.

Good info... Whats difference in the flywheight profile... say 8dj vs 8cr???

The 8CR and the 8DJ have about the same profile with the 8cr seeming to have more material at the end of the weight, plus it is a heavier weight, the 8DJ is 37.77g and the 8CR is 38.09g. The engagement area also doesnt seem as steep on the 8CR as the 8DJ from looking at my clutching poster.

Good deal. Did these change in any year? Should i stay newer than?? Also, belt should be the same? And lastly the earlier post mentioned the suspension was the primary difference. This sxr came skidless, i picked up a skid from a viper. Should bolt right in... yes?

As far as I know the skid is the same from 97 on, even though the travel is longer on the SXR than the Sx, So I would "think" that the viper suspension should fit....

I would like to say the skids should swap out fairly easily, the reason why I say this is I was looking for a Viper locally and someone offered me one for good (sellers) $$$ that appeared that the skid was swapped with one that was from a '97 Sx into the Viper and in the background of the pictures there were Sx style chassis parts as if the owner was upgrading the suspension of the sx style chassis with a "newer" long travel Viper suspension. But the truth is I CANNOT say for sure if it is a direct fit.

The belt should be the same as the ctr to ctr distance is what dictates belt length.
