hey guys its been a while since ive been here, i sold my old 88 exciter and now i want to buy another sled, im going to college and its all paid for so now im looking into taking out a student loan and buying a snowmobile, need some help. i either want to buy a rev 800+ or a SXR 600+, i wanted the rev because its a twin and faster but my girlfriend loves to ride so i want something a bit smaller that i can enjoy with her. im asking for suggestions on what kind to get, what there is for mods on them and things to look for that go wrong or some things to look for when buying one and If anyone has on e for sale or knows of one for sale in the New York area please let me know... thanks in advance
worry about college first, then buy a sled!! thats my advice...and good advice at that. I own student rental property and these kids blow thier $$ and then can't pay for housing, courses, books ect. Then turn to thier parents. Before you know it they just drop out!

trust me, that's my first priority, ill let you know about my situation, my dad has polytheistic kidney disease, i get full financial coverage for school, 5500 a year, college is a total of 3500 a year, includes books and meals and everything except housing, i plan to live with my dad and commute, i only live 20 minutes from school, my dad also used to ride sleds when he was a kid and this might be his last winter so i want to try and get a sled so him and i have something to do, so with this being said, what is your advise now? vipers are more expensive that sxr's so i might get an sxr, found some nice ones like 700 or 800 for like 1000-1900
get a tripple if you can find one in good shape or a venom as it is the sx600r in the viper chassis. they seem to go pretty cheap as well. you can keep it for awhile after you start working as it is still a good performing and decent fuel milage sled.
If you want my advice stay away from any Ski-Doo 800 twins. Straight up they are grenades just waiting to go off. end of story. find your self a good SX or SXR 700 do the cheap mods with some TY clutch tricks and you'll forget all about those Doo Doos.

The Ski-Doo is in a totally different league for ride comfort compared to a Sx-r with the triples being way more reliable! The local repair shop here says the 600's are pretty good, but he does lots of 800 rev engine rebuilds every year.

ya thats why i want a yamaha, if i were to get a rev it would be when i have money, plan on racing or just going really fast, and plan to rebuild every year... yamahas seem to be the cadilac of snowmobiles...

Yes there very well built and designed for the long haul and to be serviced for a long time.So many of the new sled seem almost throw away and I just don't seem 'em aging very well which is totally rediculous considering what they cost.

ya if you think about it cars are the same thing now, im a mechanic at pep boys and allot of the newer cars go wrong more often then the old, but cars started in like the 90s to get crappy, thank god sleds were still getting better and better till like what 2004 or so?

Find a nice 01-02 sxr 6 or 700 if ur buddies got an 8 id get the 7 and put triples on it. They are good sleds and run real good when you get pipes on it. You would be happy with it no doubts one of the best handling sleds yami has made. Id stay away from the doo 800 twin too.

The SX700 triple is a really fun and reliable sled. I own a 97 SX700 with the head gaskets mod, heavy hitter clutching, a benders can and converted the newer mono suspension into it out of a 05 RX-1 and i love the sled. Its got 10,756 miles on it original pistons and rings and still makes 125 psi on all three cylinders and only problem i ever had was had to replace a stator. So yeah great sled to look for.

Yeah DUDE I 110% I know exactly what your saying,
Just got SLP triple on My MM700 and v force reeds, and ill blaze any ski-doo 800 mouthpeice on the trail or in open powder. I'm not talking it up, this is for real. The only thing I cant keep right up with is Apex and Nytro turbo's seriously.
Rev's are Re-Built Grenades,
