Valve in gas line

Ok guys I'm going to run this idea by you guys. I was thinking of adding a gas valve between the fuel tank and the fuel pump. On the wifes polaris there is a gas valve and to winterize the carbs all we do is shut the valve off and run it until it dies and then give a few more pulls after it dies to try to get the gas out. So does this really work and sould I try this on the SRX.

During my storage procedure I get the sled warm, shut it off, drain the fuel out of the tank and then start it and let the sled run 'til it starts to sputter then suck the last bit out of the bowls with the choke and then put the fogging oil to it until (alternating between the three carbs). After about a half can I let it die.

I used to use the shut off valve on my Polaris' (and used the choke to suck the bowls dry) but this was before ethanol and there wasn't as much worry about storing fuel.

If you installed a shut off valve you'd still want to drain the tank.

IMO - save yourself some work and drain the tank first then let it die.
 
i heard it was better to leave fuel in them so the seals dont dry out..any truth to this
 
I have added shut off valves to several sleds and to be honest I don't use any of them. I have even bypassed them on a couple sleds now. Best to drain all fuel from the entire system if possible. The type of rubber used in the only places with seals tolerates the "dry" summer very well. The fuel we have in most of the Midwest, does not tolerate sitting very well regardless of stabilizer or not.

I originally added shut-off valves as a theft deterrent.

Ya sounds like I wont be adding one. I usually siphen the system dry after I drain the carbs on the yamie and after we ran the gas out of the polaris.
