Extended chaincase ?? need tech answers !!

There is someone on another site fabing an extended case. Basicly he saws the case in half and welds an extension in. Has anyone on here tried this ? Supposedly changes approach angle on the track and gets the track SAFTELY away from the front exchanger and allows a 2" + lug track. I just wanted to try it so I can run a 9T extrovert and a 1 1/4 inch lug. I know I can regear for my 8T drivers but correct me if I'm wrong on this one.....you can gear all you want to run the 8T driver but you still lose power because the track has to bend at a sharper angle and you lose mechanical advantage running the smaller diameter drives.
 
that is right, it will rob power with smaller drives, and also because of the tighter turn makes it real easy to jumpthe track, so usually if people go that rout, they end up using anti ratchet drivers. cant help ya with the chaincase though, it would be the way to go but ive never done it and dont know who makes them. but i thought they were dropped and rolled out a little bit also rather than just extended down like like the guy in your description. good luck

On my 2002 SRX I am running 9 tooth extroverts with an 1 1/4" x 144 Ripsaw[no studs]. I had 8 tooth extroverts on first but thought I was loosing too much efficiency so I installed the 9 tooth. I did have to trim the tips of the extrovert lugs a bit to clear the front suspension arm.

In my setup, I must say that I don't really notice the difference in performance going from the 8 tooth to 9 tooth, other then a little less vibration on the hard pack.
On my sled, I think their is so many other efficiency losses with a 144" 11/4" and long travel suspension, reverse ect that the drivers make little difference.

the efficency loss would be minimal. if running 8t increases the risk of jumping the track, why does yamaha use them on the mountain 2 strokes? never had any issues with any of my mtn sleds with the stock 8t drivers. what are you wanting as an end result? my mtn sleds can achieve at or near triple digits on the trail with trail gearing and 8t drivers. taller lug track=more rotating mass=efficency loss. seems as though a longer chain would be needed to accomodate extension which would equal more rotating mass. i have a drop and roll in my sled which is about the same concept as the extension. the plus side of either is the clearance as well as reducing the air pump drag effect in the tunnel. the extension is good for mountain/deep snow applications but i see no benefit for a trail sled. more trouble than its worth. again, whats the desired outcome for your sled? trail/lake racer, ditchbang, deep snow, boondock, etc?
 
I have one of the extended chaincase on my mod they are top notch, tripleswillneverdie does them, i found him on snowest but believe he is on here as well. quality is amazing, i have alot of clearance now as well, am running a 159/16-2.5 track and still have room. Really makes all of the difference, shoot him a pm. very reasonably priced as well!

I remember seeing it the other day and thought it to be very informational on the picture end of it.. Still have questions though if I were to build a mtn sled.

You probably have so much going on in the different seasons that you are always playing catch up.... I know it is that way for me...

OR is it that the "winter bug" bites you every season. :-)
