i have a 1997 sx 700 with 4800 miles on it. it is runnin very very lean the plugs are white no color at all. i cleaned carbs almost 5 times every thing is spotless. when i bought sled it ran rough bogged at low rpm and ran lean. when i cleaned carbs it idles and runs great no bog its just plugs are bone white. i have tried br9es br8es and br7es. i put new fuel pump on it. i tried turning screw out on bottom of carb to 3 turns no change at all. only mod on sled is bender racing clutch kit and bender racing can witch was on it when i bought it. plz help i am hoping 2 go 2 michagan over christmas. thanks

beat ya to it WATCHMAKER....lol

stock for the year sled is 145/143.8/143.8

Pilots 45

Fuel screws out 1.5 turns.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN THERE NOW??????????????????

1997 sx 700

it has stock jets i even put a stock can on it and it still is lean i tried 1.5 turns and no change it say in severice manual to turn out for richer setting i turned out to 3 and no change

that what i thought it was i took oil pump off and everything looked good and moved as it should i put oil in gas tank 2 be safe i just filled oil tank up and ran it and it went down so i filled it up again and ran it and it used oil. my cable is set at factory spec 21mm

sounds like its got a air leak to me if its that lean. I would get some carb cleaner and spray around the crank seals and see if the idle rpm changes. I would also spray it by the carb boots.

I know you said you cleaned the carbs, did you check where the needle is at,what groove its in??

(by the way the smaller the number on ngk plugs the hotter the range so you went the wrong way.)

when you cleaned the carbs, did you actually remove the pilots, clean and inspect them? Did you blow through all the passages with compressed air? And how are you testing the sled to arrive at your lean diagnoses?

i sprayed around crank seal it did not change rpm. i have always herd that br8es is colder than br9es. i let sled idle and warm up then ride across feild come back and its lean. there is nothing inside air box it there supposed 2 be? i did not check needles because i did not know how 2 get them out properly . and i blew all passages out i have had carbs off probaly 15 times in the last 2 weeks

how long are you riding this sled? does it run good? does it pull 83-8400rpm?

we need details, you have to remeber, we cant see or hear the sled, only have your typed words to help diagnose a problem, so the more detail you can provide the easier it is to find and solve the problem.

i rode sled up in feild down and back and came back 2 check plugs i would say 1/2 mile out and 1/2 mile back sled runs great but is lean i dont want to melt pistons. sled will rev 9000rpm no problem. when u choke it and let idle plugs are wet when u turn off choke plugs are white

I dont know, your not giving me enough to work with, the shorter the answer the less help anyone can provide.all your telling me is its lean. :o|

if it was that lean, you would have already burned it down riding it that far(1mile) and turning 9000rpm.

A lean engine wont want to turn rpm, it wont run good either, it will labor to pull rpm..

If it holds a nice steady idle the pilot circuit is working.

do you have the ability to post pics of these plugs?

better yet, how about your phone number so i can call you, cause the typing thing aint gettin it.

Bet you're running fuel with ethanol in it. Plugs always appear lean when running too much of that crap. I was once helping a buddy of mine jet his dirt bike. Anything we did, an the plug still read lean. Found out he was running Sunoco 94 garbage. That fuel is the worst, as they use the ethanol to boost octane. If you were truly running that lean, you would feel it, and hear it.

Air box should have a diverted shelf in it..... Also FYI BR8ES is a hotter plug than BR9ES! The lower the number on a NGK the hotter the plug! Your primary needs weight in the tips if you're reving 9000 Rpms... You want to be pulling 8400-8500 on a stock motor stock pipe maching

it has a a bender clutch kit it ingages at 4500 rpm it will rev 9000rpm at high speeds. the air box still have a divider in it.
