Started my sled this morning to move it out of its home, fired fine ran great. Moved it out and let it run to warm up. Shut it off and went back about an hour later and no start. Checked plugs, good, got lots of spark, half a tank of fuel, choke working properly. Changed the T.O.R.S and still no start. Turns over good but no start. Any suggestions!!! Banging my head right now!!!
 
Dump a small amount of gas down the sparkplug holes and see if it will fire,and i agree check carbs every year or better yet drain bowls after the season over.
 
Not first time this year. Cleaned carbs about a month ago and was riding 2weeks ago with no problems... Took breather box off now to see if pump is malfunctioning..
 
Yes they will freeze if there is water in the fuel or ......there was a old upgrade on vipers the bottom of the pump was exposed to the hole in the chassis under them.I think the hole got blocked off or the fuel pump was raised if i remember right to fix.Yamaha fuel pumps are bullit proof i have never seen one fail but i have seen the vipers one freeze. .

condensation

Bringing a snowmobile from a cold enviroment to warm shop will build condensation in fuel system. Bring back into a heated shop and see if it start's.

carbs are probably gummed up again..check it.You have electric start or not? If you do,unplug one of the fuel line,crank motor and see if fuel spits out.The best time to do this is outside when it is -38 windchill day...or lay a torch nearby the fuel line..if she catches on fire..you'll know there is fuel coming out.If you got some then unplug the other 2 and have a wienie roast..lol
 
The machine isnt in a heated shop, sits in the same temp as outside. I was thinking about doing the torch thing Doug but thought better of it. Got to keep tha Viper so I can fly by you on the Red River...lol... Problem solved, was a frozen fuel pump, got some heat on it and let it warm up for awhile and she fired up and purred like she should. I will have to lokk into raising it up a bit and see if that stops it from happening again, but that is the first time its ever happened to me... Thanks guys appreciate all the comments and help... I did take some fuel out of the tank to see if there was any water in there but did not see any. I also only run premium fuel. Technically there should be no ethanol in the premium I run, but who knows it may have... Says no ethanol on the pump... I have never run any gasline antifreeze in any sled because I thought it was bad, bad, bad for 2 stroke motors!!!
 
i think now you will be adding some gas antifreeze in your tank.I always add a liitle amount in my tanks.you don't know these days what you are getting from the gas stations anymore..it is just an added benifit.Go to Can Tire and pu the stuff in the red bottles.You can actally ride your VIPER cross the fields over onto Can Tire that is close to you.
 
I can ride to Canadian Tire in Steinbach...lol... and there are alot of feilds to cross before i get there..lol.. Cant wait to build out in Lac Du Bonnett at least they have some real nice trails out there... I guess I will start adding some gas line antifreeze, just thought it was bad for the sleds as I have heard that it was a no no to add.. Have you been out riding much Doug? I have gone a few times but want the rivers ect to freeze. Alot of guys have been swamping their machines out on the bush trails because the water under the snow isnt frozen. Mel and I rented a cottage in the Whiteshell for between christmas and new years to do some riding and fishing. hopefully things freeze by then
 
Frozen Viper pumps are very common, thats why they had the mod out to seal the bottom vent, and have elliminated the vent if you order a new one...the ice forms in the bottom up against the diaphram not on the fuel side so gas line anti freeze won't help this problem. Boiling water dumped over the pump will usually get it working again.
If you want to add gas line Anti Freeze to your fuel, you want the C-Tire Motor Master premium gas line anti freeze in the blue bottle...should only use isopropyl alchol in sleds and fuel injected vehicles.

Cam..looks like the Red River ain't freezing to good,open water in a lot of places.The La Salle River was great this weekend,not to much snow on top..but solid ice.Next weekend we will ride out even further on it.
 
Get a couple of pieces of 1/8" stips of aluminum. Cut them about an inch long. Loosen the fuel pump and place these shims under the pump near the bolts. This will allow any moisture the escape from under the pump so it does not freeze up.
 
I never experienced the problem but I did the fix anyways for piece of mind. unbolted the pump and put a rubber spacer I made out of 1/4" rubber. also siliconed the vent hole closed.
 
I will try the shims under the pump.. Doug, I saw alot of guys riding on the La Salle river today. I will have to take my sled over there and go for a dig at lunch tomorrow...lol...
