Broken Speedometer key, 99 Mountain Max

connector

I was writing in reference to the connector you referenced. In the end of the axle is a connector for the key to insert. This connector is pressed in. It is not threaded. You could try to drill out the key without removing it. Go small with the bit because the key is square. = the hole through the connector is square. if you cannot simply drill out the key the connector needs to be drilled, tapped and pressed out. then of course replaced. All of the rest is good info though. no sense in fixing the key to have it break again. check speedo cable, housing and axle bearing. Make sure all are in order. just my 2 cents :2strokes: :letitsnow :letitsnow :letitsnow

Alright looks like I am going to have to drill out the insert and everything cause the key is way in there, I already bought a new insert but when I am installing it can I just tap it in with a hammer?Update: Nevermind, took it to the dealer and they did it.

anyone know how to get the insert that the speedo needle goes into off of the drive shaft with the shaft still in ?? I took everthing apart and all back together but didint realize the needle was stuck in the shaft so now its either take it all apart or try and get it out in the machine

I have the same issue I replaced my axle bearing since I did every other bearing on the sled but I went to put the new speedo key in and it seemed to be wayyyyy too long. So I figured out that part of the old key is stuck in the axle.

Do I drill it out?? or just cut the new key shorter and see if that works? Or maybe just bolt the speedo housing on and go without a speedo?
