Boss seat and light install

How are you guys attaching the lights on those boss seats? I have one on the way and have not actually seen the seat. Is there a plastic panel or somthing on the back of the seat?
Hey Big Al, how did you rig it up? Do I need to make a bracket? Any ideas would be appreiciated.
 
The easiest and in my opinion most OEM looking is using a "push in" style tail light. Either LED or Incondesant. These lights are common among trailer lighting. The bracket was standard bracket made especially for the "push in" lights. I just bolted the bracket in the back storage area of the seat. This does two things, holds the light and actually bolts down the seat. The down fall is you have to cut the storage pocket with a HOT knife to allow for the opening. The Wiring is basic, ground, running and stop. Check it out

that back area is a pocket. works great for concealing all connections. i heated a large nail and melted/ burned the fabric for my 2 mounting screws, and wires. i used a 5" clear lense with red LEDs. i cut off the stock wiring connector and used bullet style connectors. works awesome. i stuffed the back pocket with some socks to keep it solid. give me 30 mins, and i will post some pics.
 
The stock light will also work, you could fabricate plate for the bracket to allow the OEM tail light to bolt to. The down fall is that unless you have a tunnel extension, ie; 136 track, the light will overhang the tunnel. Check out the OEM tail light we have on our Viper, 136 track

the light looks small, but it produces big bright light, especially at night.

Thanks. I just wanted to have plan so maybe I can be ready to install it when it shows up. I am familiar with those push in lights and it looks like the way to go on a stock tunnel. I saw your post a couple weeks ago and didnt realize you had extended the tunnel.
 
if your asking me, no. i think i bought it from shadetree powersports. when you buy one, just make sure its a stop/ turn/ tail. i think thats what they are called?

Did you actually make the bracket for the light? What do you mean when you refer to the bracket as a "standard bracket made for push in lights?" I am about to fabricate a bracket because I have not been able to find one. I have already purchased an identical light to the one you have used but I dont have a bracket for it.

The bracket I am refering too is a Black painted steel bracket which is made specifically for the push in lights. The bracket I bought was $6 at a local NAPA store, but I have alse seen the same bracket at many supply outlets which sell the push in lights. Most farm stores have these also. Al
 
I believe the part number for the bracket we are after is a Grote 43362. There are different options for lights that fit it.
 
That bracket looks perfect! I have now spent about $100 on 5 different lights trying to figure which one would work best and if I knew this bracket existed, I woyld have been able to save about $80 of it....lol

I have another question though. My lamp ( same one as in your picture ) has a blk, red and wht wire. My stock SRX plug has a grn, blu/red and blk wire. I know the blacks go together, but does anyone know how the other wires attach?

I mounted my stock tailamp just rearward of my Boss seat on a set of homemade brackets that I bent myself out of some 1 inch wide aluminum stock. I used two bolts on each side through the tunnel and drilled a hole for the stock tailamp mounting bolts. It came out pretty nice but I might buy a Viper taillamp to put on it because my stocker is a little wider than the rear end of the seat. I managed to put a couple of slits in the bottom of the seat cover to snake the stock wiring harness through and also used a long narrow piece of rod to put a routing hole through the seat base foam. It came out pretty nice and I didn't have to splice any wiring!

actually the blacks probably DONT go together!!
i will assume the yamaha harness is as follows
black=ground
green= run
blue/red=brake..... just check a wiring diagram to confirm

your aftermarket brakelight should be marked as......
white=ground
red=brake
black=run
