Been trying to track down a low speed rumble on my 98 SX700. Confirmed that the jackshaft bearing and PTO drive shaft bearing were OK, pulled the chain case to determine if the problem was there. Noticed that the chain case bearings, both had the sealed side on the inner part of the bearing while the open side was facing the outer. Dealer confirmed that this is the way they come. Why? would seem that by installing so that the open side was facing the interior the bearing would be exposed to the oil and would be lubed better? All bearings seem to be fine, probably should have swapped out the belt first.

Oil will still get past the seal but it's purpose is to keep metal shavings out of the bearing. They will wear much faster with the seal on the outside.

This may sound crazy but my Viper developed a low speed rumble/vibration that I could not track down. It finally went away when I changed my track. I didn't change the track trying to get rid of the rumble, it was just wore out. I didn't change any chaincase bearings but I did changer the jackshaft bearing.
