What is even more of a tribute to yami is the the lower end has never been touched, still is running with the original stator, oil pump, and two pistons out of three. Lost one piston/jug to a broken reed stopper, have done the front cooler pain in the asss job, a couple trailing arms, and all sorts of other little things, but with over 8000 miles on the pipes and abuse this sled has seen, it owes me nothing. Have no idea what I am going to replace it with IF IT will ever die!!! Have a good friend with a 97 sx with even more miles on the original motor. Take good care of these machines and they will last a long time as if I need to tell any yamaha person that.

When the original junk track took out the cooler I went on a mission to set up a dual purpose sled. USA extensions, 136 fully clipped ripsaw studded down the middle, eight tooth anti rachet drivers, and the simmons. Rich from the site is an awesome vendor! After researching and talking to different pipe makers decided on the aaens. It took some trial and error playing with the gearing, clutching, and jetting. Gearing ended up at 180. Lots of low end grunt but could still peg 90mph on the trail when thirst set in. Aaen said my clutching should work and all I did was add an engagment washer and wrapped the secondary to 70 if I remember right. Dead nuts on with engagement at 4100 and 9100rpm's top. Aaen, talk about customer support!!, said that to get the bang out of the pipes in the midranges that you use off trail I would have to jet on the lean side. Final jetting ended up being 146.3 mains, 40 pilots, needles on 3, fuel screws two out. Also put a Q4 venturi or what ever they call it on the pto carb to match the other two carbs. Reed spacers finished the motor and have over 7000 miles on this set up. Fuel use is almost identical to stock, I watch the egt's when it's REALLY cold, and to answer your question, it's a blast to be climbing a steep hill, punch the throttle, lift the skis off the ground, and bust the cornice at the top!! I couldn't be happier how this sled turned out and the fun it has provided.
