This is a good question. I am a "Newbie" and I have posted a couple of questions about my carbs. I was nervous about posting because I did not want to look stupid in front of everyone. My questions were answered quickly and respectfully, for that I am grateful. I personally do not understand much about mechanics, but I don't have the extra money to pay one right now, so I wish to learn how to repair/replace/maintain my sled for myself. I think Bluemonster's idea of a Q&A section would be awesome! I would be able to look for my specific problem and read how other members solved the issue. I only hope you include a section for every type of sled, not just SRX's and Viper's. Thank You to everyone on this site for all of help you give, Lee

Maybe add some kind of systematic way to diagnose problems like
Engine does not start/run well
- Engine needs compression, correct fuel/air ratio, and spark.
Compression. Use a screw in type compression gauge to verify each cylinder is within tolerance and within % of each other.
Air/Fuel.
- Is the engine runs, is it lean/rich (by reading plugs)?
- Are the carb boots on tight?
- Fresh gas (or at least stored with Stabil)?
- Is the carburetor clean (no clogged passages, main and pilot jet clean, air screw clean, no varnish)?
- Air screw adjusted properly?
- Is the needle valve functioning? Are the oil lines purged of air and the oil pump correctly pumping oil? Is the fuel pump pumping fuel? No cracks in the fuel lines?
- Inspect the reeds for damage.
- Exhaust leak around damaged donut? Missing springs
- Powervalves misadjusted, cable siezed or barrel pulled through the top of the valve?
Spark.
- Check by resting plug against cylinder bolt and turning over (or with a inline spark tester)
- TORS adjustment needed if the engine cuts immediately upon throttle and restores after release.
- Spark plug fouled? Spark plug caps corroded or resistor bad? Unscrew and test, should be 5k ohms.
- Wire rub through from vibration can cause intermittent spark loss. Bad spots are under the motor / by the water pump, near CDI box, by handlebars, under seat to rear.
- Bad connections at connectors. Clean terminals, use electrical grease during reinstallation
- Stator/Coils (poor starting and or poor running), run multimeter tests, swap out for a known good unit
- CDI - swap for a known good box

I was just about to add the same thing. if it was all in link form maybe it would be easier. like having a few options such as picking a model, then system (electrical, fuel, etc) then maybe a symptom. that would lead you to a diagnosis page perhaps? might be impossible to do, not really sure. great ideas here though!
anything for sled newbies on state by state registration requirements? I have 2 here that I have recently gotten (well, 3 really but one is being stripped/used as parts) don't have any prior paperwork, one last registered in 00, the other in 87. I am in IL and need to know if there is any hope of getting these things legal or I'm SURE the cops will see to it that I pay way more than registration fees; like they do for every other piddly cotton picking thing.....
What about the online manual section? I know as a newbie I have spent hours looking for a manual. I finally bought one off ebay. How many times have you seen in a thread "the service manual says ____"? If there is not access to a manual, these comments are meaningless. I know the next answer will be "go buy one". Well some people do not have the extra cash right now and would love to ride.

My first couple of months on the board I search everything and everywhere. I guess it looks like I will have to do the same and discover the new changes. Thanks for forward thinking. It should make the newbies search easier.
