I'm having trouble pulling off top bib to get to airbox and then carbs... Tricks / advice appreciated. (don't have svc manual...)

Yup, As Chief says. I've never had an SX but have played with many Exciters. I've found that removing the bolts/screws for the bib helps gain some room but removal is unessessary. Belt guard, belt and secondary clutch need to go to get the airbox out. If the SX is like the other Exciters you also need to remove the intake tube that is on the right side of the airbox. Cables, clamps, etc and a little fenagling and you can worm it out of there through where the secondary clutch area. Once you've done it a couple times it becomes fairly easy.

Correct as the others have mentioned. Just loosen the airbox and it will provide enough room to move around. Also check my site www.excitersx.com for more info and help on the mighty sx.
