I have a 98 srx 700 and the temp light starts flashing at 70 - 75 mph.
It is about 20 outside and the rpm's are running about 8300.
Is this normal????

what were the snow conditions? the only time ive ever had my temp light come on was when i was riding in really hard packed snow/ ice conditions, not enough snow was getting to the heat exchangers.

hard packed trails

i would bet thats the reason. i like to dip a ski off the side of the trail into the powder every so often to throw some snow up on the exchanger as well as the hyfax slides. i would bet that if your sled was running hot from lack of snow your hyfax took a beating too. did you smell them burning at all?

No ride these trails and maybe I just haven't noticed the light before.

Could I just take the thermostat out until I get the new one in?

Take it out and put it into a pot of water on the stove. Bring the water to a boil and see if the stat opens up. If it opens near boiling point its good. I would then make sure all the air is bled out of the system. I lift the back of the sled as high as I can and run the engine. I also use compressed air in the overflow tube to pressurized the system to help get the air out. Give the system a small shot of air then plug it with a golf tee. You don't want 100 psi in the system!

well the light flashes in a sequence, this sequence tells you what the problem is, you have to count the flashes, tough sometimes when it only does it wide open, but you need to know what the count is before you just assume its overheating.

All right i'll try to count the sequences of the temp light but its defiantly going to be hard going wide open, it's pretty rough riding around here. So, don't buy a thermostat yet?

find a smooth long field or road and find out, if you have nothing better to do with your money but buy stuff till the light quits flashing by all means order a new one.
by the way, the temp light flashes 3 times when you start it up, then that tells you the system is working right, make sure it does this before you run it. The sequence repeats with a slight pause, so if its a code 4 for example, it will flash, then flash, then flash, then flash, slight pause and repeat.
all the information is here on this site in the tech section.

Just cleaned , adjusted and put new seals and o-rings in it. Why did you have the same problem?

well the light just blinks when I open it up. No sequence it just blinks after 75mph which would tell me it is getting hot. Should I change the thermostat or is it possibly air or what?? What else could it be?

Yes I had my motor out and when I put it back I connected to the servo motor improperly. After I corrected the problem lights stopped flashing
