I've got a buddies '98 VMax in the shop and I can't get the dang thing figured out!!! It will sit and idle fine, but just doen't have any power otherwise. Pulled the plugs multiple times and they were always wet. Tried multiple plugs and I can pull the wires off while it's running and it doesn't change a thing. One thing I have already tried is putting in a new oil pump. I had the one on my '97 go bad years ago and found out this was a common problem. I pulled the carbs to clean them and got sidetracked, only to come back to them the next day and fine the gas evaporated out of the bowls, but an excess of oil remaining!!! I figured it was getting too much oil and in turn not making the power. So, it's not the oil pump, not the plugs/wires...any other ideas????
I really appreciate any help here!!!1
Thanks!!!

Sounds like you may have a coil on its way out. They can work fine at idle, as soon as they get hot/under load they can play up.

whats the compression like? whats the spark like? whats the fuel like?
Good compression, good spark, new fuel with some seafoam in it now....I will look into the coils!!! i have a '97 VMax sitting here too, maybe a little swapping!!!! Thanks!!!
Stator on its way out? Had that on my '97. Check how strong the spark is with a gap tester.

so, if you pull off 1 at a time it doesnt change rpm?
what happens when 2 are pulled?
it sounds like its running on 1 or 2 cylinders, or low timing.
1.) swap the coils with a known other good one since you have that luxury.
2.) if that suspect coil from this sled proves good on good running sled then do the same with the cdi box.
