Added studs to my 96 vmax xt with proaction plus rear skid. Has original track so I put 96- .875 carbide studs down the center. I thought this would help it hook up better on the ice and hard pack. It did to an extent but if I get on it much more than ¼ throttle off the line it just spins em. If I’m already going 20-30 and go over ½ it spins em. I have another 48 and have considered putting them in the outside but hate to do that to a 15 year old track even though it is like brand new and only has 1600 original miles. I do not have the rear cranked up as it does sag when I get on and it does ride nice and soft in the rough, however it does not squat and take the weight when throttle is applied. I realize that this sled is heavy on the front but my arctic cat squats and grabs when you jump on the throttle, and this does not. Any idea how I can make it transfer the weight to the rear like the cat does short of changing the transfer rods to the newer adjustable style?
 
Mine had 300(roughly) when i bought (pic attached a couple years after i got it).

That thing would still spin the track most of the time when the pipes kicked in.

You can mess with the transfer rods a little but i don't think you will have a lot of luck getting great traction. FYI i am currently running without any studs on the new track.

What is your new track (make, model, lug height) and how is it doing for hook up? I have thought about going that route also.

I put on Kimpex Shotgun X 1.25 lug .
no Studs
The thing hooks up like you would not believe,on any trail condition.
Im amazingly happy whith this track
 
Sick looking track Gun lover,
I but a 1" Predator i believe on mine, works well but i can still spin her (seems better then the over studded track for sure). I went with 1" so i could stud it if i wanted to, however the 1.25 is a GREAT option if you don't want studs more often then not this will give better traction.

If you are on Ice or Hard pack studs will be better, usualy in somewhat loose to powder you will want the deeper lugs studs don't help when they can't grab ice or hardpack.

I had the 1" predator on my 94 vmax 600 I sold. It was okay but I really like the look of that Shotgun X! It hink I am going to do some more checking on that one.
 
Bender Racing and a few other aftermarket companies use to make adjustable transfer rods for the pro-action skids to gain more transfer, for the exact thing you are experiencing.
I have a set on my 96 and made a big difference in transfering for traction... hooks up WAY more, to the point i can't keep the skis on the snow on full transfer... and without studs... I only have a 1.25" track.

Warning... the ones for the 96 XT were longer then the 97 and newer pro-actions... they are NOT the same. I learned the hard way.

When i had my 95, it had a stock track with 96 studs, worn out stock suspension.. I swapped a skid in from a 2001 zl, And even with the same track the traction issues were almost non existent..
