It is generally agreed upon that the 2000-2002 srx700's are faster than a 98 or 99 srx700. (Both sleds stock). The 98-99 srx700 had some major gearing and clutching issues. The 98 srx700 came with terrible clutching and 23/37 gears as opposed to the better clutching and little shorter gearing of 23/38 found on the later srx700. I am wondering if you took a stock 98 srx700 and changed the gearing to 23/38 and changed the clutching to something like 8dn-20's loaded how close would you be in performance to a 2000-2002 srx700.
I am considering purchasing a second srx700 and I am wondering if a 2000-2002 srx700 would have a performance increase above a properly geared and clutched 98 srx700.

your only talking a few hp like 3-4hp differance, thats not enough you can notice. You are in the right frame of mind, work on the clutching/gearing and it would be the same sled performance wise.
most 98-99's made 137-138hp, most 2000-02 your looking at 140-142, the best i have ever seen stock was 142hp. theres not enough differance there to get beat, it will ALL COME DOWN TO SET UP in that race!

Can you change port timing like they do in machz? Thicker base gasket and cut the heads?

I posted this above.
Add 2 base gaskets & cut heads 25 thou or 30 if you get good gas. Good easy cheap mod.

Thanks turk, What octane should you run turk? Have viper with 23cc domes running 98 for spec stock car motors. Seems to work good.
