1991 PHAZER II airbox ?'s

anyone ever take anything out of the factory phazer airbox it looks like the most restrictive air box ever desighned im just wondering if there is anything to gain by removing any parts / rejetteing ? anything?? thanks guys
 
DO NOT mess with the air box if you have stock carbs... you need flatslides to gut the air box or it will melt pistons.
 
There isn't anything in the airbox, it is just an empty box. You can remove it, but will have to rejet the carbs.
 
no its full of stuff, a divider metal plate a 2-1 tube then a removable tube with holes drilled in it ... theres alot of stuff to it ... have you looked in one??? its far from empty

Well I'll be .......
I have only had one Phazer airbox apart, the one on my 85, and it is empty. That means the previous owner gutted it.
That is why the intake seems loud- :idea:

And it's been proven time and time again that gutting it will make the factory carbs allready lean midrange even worse. You cannot adj. The factory carb for a richer midrange. So either leave it alone or add a set of carbs with adjustable midranges.
 
The mid can be adjusted some what by installing different primary nozzles (if you can find them Part #80L-14489-00-00 has two .9mm holes).
 
The later Phazer's had the lean midrange problem cured. Hartman Inc. sells a kit with the necessary carb parts.

Thier kit is the Yamaha part 80L-14489-00-00.
