minimum amount of snow to safely ride?

I like a good eight inches to a foot before I even think about riding trails. People rip them up too fast. Atleast on the first 8" to 1'. After there is a good ice base I will ride with only a couple of inches of fluff but I watch really carefully where and how long I ride. We have had a season so far I think we got a couple feet. I was out on the lake today and at the shore next to the reeds I buried my wife's phazer II in three and a half feet!

when is the last time you saw two feet of snow on the ground in Michigan? I want to ride there. We have been getting between 3 an and 6 inches each day for the last week and still only seem to have about 8-12 inches total on the ground some how.
You need to look 20 miles to the east and maybe 10 miles to the north of TC. It's not 2 feet, but it's more than a foot. Especially off trail.
