Hi, new to the forums here.

I just picked up a 94 VMax last night. It is not in running order and the previous owner tried to remove the bad clutch with a sledge hammer... but free is free...

Compression is good, I think it will start after a little gas/plugs/cleaning routine.

I think it is a 94 (manufacturing date of 6/93) and the Vmax and 600 are clearly identified. It is a nice looking sled (Red) in pretty decent shape other than a torn seat cover. Thats really all I know about it.

I have two other sleds, a 96 Arctic Cat ZR580 and a 91 Ski-Doo Safari LXE 2up long track. As you can see, I am not necessarily brand specific, but I do like to ride and tinker, lol.

I look forward to reading up on this sled and getting it going. Let me know if you know where I can find a good used or new primary clutch at a good price.

Thanks for any info.

Bill

Boy, if he really used a sledge hammer, the first thing i would do is check the run out on the PTO end of the crank. Regarding a used primary, there are a bunch of guys here that will likely have one for you. Otherwise you could call any sled salvage yard to get one too. I think you got a good deal there too! ;-)

I was thinking the same thing, if someone got too fix-it-happy with a hammer on the primary, your crank might not quite be straight anymore. (which would mean a complete engine tear down w/new or straightened crank, aka not cheap)

A polaris P85 clutch will fit without any mods, and is a HUGE improvement in both tuning, parts, reliability, and cost. My '95 vmax came with a p85 on it, didn't even realize it until well after I bought it that it wasn't quite a much of a yamaha as I thought it was. (and I have since added polaris suspension to it!)

* disclaimer, I don't know if there are different versions of the p85 with different inner diameters, I just know the one I have fits well! *
