:winterrul :o| ok here is the deal have a 97 sx 700 just installed cpr tiple pipes, jetted now on to the clutch first off it over revs by allot always has since i owned it. yesterday there was radar run so i started tweaking and am failing. i was reving at 9700 rpm !!!! so i adjusted secondary to 10 degrees brought it down to 9200. primary im not sure what spring it is it is solid orange it came with pipes but engagement is at 4800 maybe the hauck orange? not sure . so my question is what needs to be done to adjust this my top speed in 800 ft was 83 mph . you can feel it is not shifting probarly when on track it stalls for a long time before it up shifts and hits 100 i am new to clutchs so any help would be great !! i have the stock wieghts in now as i do believe i do have 8bu oo but the appear to have no rivets or whatever in them what should i have in there ? please help

Try stock weights w 4.5g inner, 3.1 tip
stock springs
2-3 engagement shims in primary
51/43 helix
22/40 gearing

80 degrees on secondary spring

Run yamaha 8DN belt

This is a set up I was given and works out really well on my sled with those pipes.

Ok I will give that a shot. So thats a good one for drags . How about that 8buoo weights that I have anybody have some info on them heard there good for drag thanks to the help hurting my head thinking this hard Haha

8bu-00 are good for drags, yes, but were more commenly used in srx's and vmax4's. wanna sell those 8bu-00's? i'll take them.

i think you might be better off w/8ca's or 8ab's in your sled.

update

Ok so I put in the 8bu weights with wsw primary spring set secondary clutch at 80 with stock helix and 8dn belt . Now rpms are spot on 8300 claiming to 8700 but now I have a lag when wot from dead stop till about 5300 rpm then rips . Do u think if I would put the hauxk Orange spring back it wish raises the engagement to around 5000 would that fix issue ? And Yeh if they don't work is prob sell them the other weights I have r the 8ca and correct weights 4.5 and 3.1 and it revs to 9400. Any ideas ? :itchy:

if you have cpr pipes, then 8300 is not dead on for rpm's. those pipes like 9000-9200.

madman, looks like you have too soft of a primary spring in there, the shift is only 110kg on that spring. You didnt mention if you still have the stock short primary spring cover or the newer long spring cover but either way, the spring is too soft with 48 gram weights(8bu) for that rpm in that engine. You need to get to 8900-9000 rpm with those pipes, they work very well. You also should have a set of 47.5 pilot jets in the carbs.

get a spring that has 45kg start and 130-136kg shift. it sounds like your drag racing so youd want a engagement speed around 4500-5000 likely

(the hauck orange spring is 55/225 per his catalog 3.) not sure if you have tried this spring with the 8bu weights?

yamaha spring for a short cover would be a orange-pink-orange, (30/135)but it wont have a nice engagement speed.

yamaha spring for a tall cover you could use a green-white-green (45/136)

you can also place spring shims in to raise your engagment speed some.

Simons made two different sets of SX pipes. Early ones when he was at RPC (loud) and later the Hushers.
If you have the early ones I used .9 air jets to get rid of the lean bog when you mash the throttle.

This is where I'm at now .
Jetting
147.5 150 147.5
45 pilots (stocks)
Fuel screws
1.5 1.75 1.5
Needles 4th notch down washers under
8bn belt
Primary
8bu s
Wsw 3 washers/ springs engages at 4000
Sec stock
80

Reed spacers
Stock head gasket
Stock airbox
i tried the Orange spring first with 8bu it had bad lag but think weight was hanging up so tried 8ch with Orange spring and over rev allot.
The pipes r not that loud so its gotta b the hushers.

8ca 15.6mm rollers 4.5 grams tip with hauck org and green sec 70 or 80 with a 50 start or so with a 40 or so finish
