Rear Shock replacement question

Can a rear (big) shock from an 97 Sx be used as a replacement for a bad shock in 96 VMax 600?

No, not that i know of. Is this a XT or a reg vmax? CCC

If it's a xt I've got both center and rear shock's that were rebuilt by Bruce at B-line.
They have less than 500 miles since rebuild,I have no use for them cause I fitted a viper skid in the xt.

No XT just VMax 600 w/ reverse

I'm pretty sure they are not interchangable because the xt shock looks a lot smaller than the long travel i've got now.I'm thinking the sx shock is only interchangable with a srx skid,but you have to change limiter straps.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
