A few of you might have seen a few of my threads about my 97 sx 700 having a few carb related issues and not wanting to work for me
http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=76702&page=1&pp=10
.. So instead of dumping all my money and time into it, I "Hopefully " Bought a reliable replacement .. Only put 10 miles on it but so far I love it.. Its in very good condition, the dual runner skis are awesome, the track is a new icepick , its smooth and its fast.. Just so happened that everything I wanted to do on my old one is now already on this one, and I will hopefully be putting a few mods on this ( clutch work , pipes etc ) but for now Im just going to enjoy it
It has 4700 miles ( kinda the only thing that worried me ), Has brand new slides ( just gotta throw them on ) , 2 new belts, new track, plugs, A 2002 yamaha tech manual , yamaha sxviper cover, all the tools and some dollies $2200
Heres a few picks for now, and Ill get a good vid tomorrow.. Im gonna fix the other, but now, I just have to get riding!!

So what can be done to these for mods? Is it worth changing the reeds clutch pipes etc?
I know nothing about modding sleds so any help would be great

I certainly would not be concerned about the mileage. Good deal.

Thanks man. I'm up in Duluth. And I'm sure I'll be looking for quite a bit of info in the near future
And to the poster above, thanks. Always reassuring to hear some positive on the miles. It was babied and maintained very well as I will do the same. One thing tho. I've heard about the power valves having issues. He always used amsoil interceptor. Should I keep using it or switch over to yamaha oil?
I also want to get some scratchers, a nice blue lo pro windshield, a skid plate and some nice registration letters and numbers that could match the SXViper writing if possible
Is there a good place for this.. Most of the big stores Ive checked only have universal stuff.. And I didnt see a whole lot in my Dennis Kirk Magazine

This is as close as I found for the registration numbers.. But its not what I was looking for.. There was a SXV with numbers in almost the exact same writing as the hood :banghead:

I have owned mine since it was new. The only issue I have had was a stuck powervalve and I was running the Interceptor at the time. When I first started buying the Amsoil it was about the same price maybe a hair more than Yamalube. Now the Interceptor is a good $10 more per gallon so I figured I would switch back to the Yamalube for less $$ being the Amsoil didn't keep my PV's any cleaner than normal. Actually they are easy to clean. Just leave the cable attached and pull out the allen head cap screws and they pull right out. You can spray them with carb cleaner and use a toothbrush to clean them.
The Viper is a great sled. I have tried different tracks over the years, rebuilt the shocks a few times but it has been a stellar runner. It seems to keep up with most of the new stuff too and really seems to slot car the trails. Corner to corner it still makes me smile.
PS: you might want to ditch the skis for better ones.

Lol WEll the skis over my ol steel skis with shot wear rods was an immense improvement , So For NOW, Im happy Like I said theres a few accessories ( windshield , shock covers, scratchers etc ) then eventually start the mod process .. Is there a good time to switch from the amsoil over to yamalube? DO I have to completely drain the amsoil out, clean the PVs etc?

no need to drain the old oil. and if you were having troubles with the old sled and carbs, I would avoid the pipes. they can make a lot of power and a lot of headaches. if you want to just ride the crap out of it, do the common clutch setup (in my sig) and once you get used to it decide where else it could be improved. skis and track are huge improvements, and the mono made a MASSIVE difference for me as far as how enjoyable it is. but for now, compared to your old mostly stock 97, just enjoy the fact that it is a smoother and stronger motor with better mileage on gas and oil looks nice man! just call your dealer and give them the vin to make sure any and all updates are done and ENJOY that sucker!!

If you really want to enjoy the ride....Get yourself a M-10, They are the $hit...Ride so much better no bumps at all...
How much for an m10 upgrade?
And to viper. Why u suggesting no pipes? Just slot of tuning involved? I dunno what messed ip with my sx carbs or settings but if it's supposed to run idle and sound like the viper, a LOT of work needs to be done
As for the clutch. I just want more low and midrange power or clutched different. I might be boing but I didn't see the link in your sig. I did check out your mono shock tho n looks very nice-!!

looks good and good price too. For the powervalves, you might want to check them now, especially since you don't know what the engine is supposed to feel like with valves working vs not working. Check for threads here on pull throughs, repairs, cleaning and adjusting. Lots of good info.
for your windshield, it might be getting difficult to get them for a 2002 sled. The dealer might be able to order one. Royal Distributing in Ontario sells Cobra/Sportech and might have what you need. They also sell ice scratchers and skid plates. I have running board mounted ones from there. I like the ski-mounted ones too, which I'd use next time.
If you hold off on putting pipes on it, you might want to sand and paint your stock pipe and manifold. Everything else looks so clean, you might as well take care of the pipe!

1) M-10's ride nice but scrub top end and acceleration
2) pipes? Where do we start? The Viper is not as easy to pipe as the SX700/600 red head triples were. The Viper has a staggered compression ratio in the head, the head doesn't cool that well, doesn't have a rear heat exchanger and the timing has a hard advancement around 8500 rpm and most pipes go past that around 8800-9000. Proper setup is very crucial to running a piped Viper or you will pay the price. Personally if you are not real mechanical at this point I would beware.
3) clutching, send me a PM and I will give you suggestions. Mine is dialed.
