Anybody got a good way to check for a crank seal leak on the mag side? Engine revs way up if I keep the choke on too long. I know you can check the rest of the seals with starting fluid, but I don't think I should do that on the mag side.
tough to do on the sled, how many miles on this sled? you can use contact cleaner it wont hurt the stator.
This isnt much help but USUALLY when you see a bad crank seal on the mag side, the seal will allow gas/oily goo to escape into the recoil and mag compartment on the case, maybe you could pop off the recoil and inspect with a flashlight and a mirror and see if its nice and dry in there, I would say its not likely it, but its not set in stone, just what prior tear downs have shown me.

I don't know much about this engine. Bought it off ebay. I replaced the seal on the pto side because the old one popped out when I fired it up the first time due to incorrect installation from who I bought it from. That's why I'm suspicious of the mag side seal. I have gone though the carbs, & they look good. I'll try the contact cleaner next. Thank's guys.
