hello, I have a 99 vmax, no electric start. I want to put a 12 v cigarette lighter adapter in for accessories, mainly GPS. Can I just jumper in to the headlight circuit or should I do it another way?? Thanks....Dan
Came across this in my search to the same question this morning. I am going to try it this weekend AFTER I ride LoL. Hope it helps.

That thread is for electric start only. A sled without electric start has no DC circuits to be found, everything is AC. You will quickly smoke any DC accessory you plug into an ac circuit.
The only way to do it is to add a voltage rectifier to provide a 12v DC regulated circuit. Not too hard to build/buy, if you only need it for small loads.

Sorry, but you are wrong concerning the 12volt DC, I have a SXR 700 with no electric start and found a 12 Volt DC terminal. It is located near the coolant hose running from head to cap area. This is an unused terminal. Just do some testing with a Digital Volt Meter. I did not use an accessory plug but hard wired my GPS perminatley. Al

On my 00 SXR600 I tapped into the brown wire leading to the tach. For a ground I ran back down and put a spade terminal on one of the hood mounts. I zip tied the recepticle under the hood and it has a plastic cover for when nothing it plugged into it. So far it works well. I also put a 1 amp inline fuse in it.
