Anybody have any experience with one of these? Put one on my SX700 with new gaskets, torqued it down to factory stock specs and the first time I hammered it (had went close to 10 miles at that time) the gasket basiclly let go. After taking it apart the gasket looked alright, in one piece but there was definitely coolant getting in the cylinders but not leaking to the outside.
I thinking try again with a little more torque, opinions?

Did you retorque the nuts after you ran a few miles?
You torque head when you first assemble it on the motor
then as you run it and everything sets in place the head
must be retorqued.

Check the head with a straight edge. Sounds like its warped.

methanolhemi-I didn't retorque it but I did think about that when I tore it back apart as a couple of the nuts did seem a little on the easy side. I will this time.
97srxXT-I can't really do the whole head because the head has 5 pieces to it top, bottom and 3 separate replaceable domes and until it's bolted down it not really stable enough to do that. The domes themself seem flat when you check them individually.
I can't find seem to find anything on the net now about them, they were still in business a couple of years ago when I bought the head used because I ordered a seal kit for it, not a good sign.
Thanks to you both for the ideas.

OK, and just to be clear to everybody I'm not slamming Mountain Performance in general. I bought this head used and I think that's the main reason I'm having problems...SNAKEBIT.. said:I sold the Viper
if it was used , get a new o ring kit

I did that, I mispoke above when I said seal kit, o ring is what I meant. After a second try it was still getting warm and I pretty sure it was leaking a small amount of coolant into the center cylinder.s fortuna said:if it was used , get a new o ring kit
I've had nothing but luck with the ones on my viper, they we're bran new when I got them. make sure you oil (lube) the o-rings for the bolts for accurate torque.

Thanks SRX-SKI, that sounds like a real good idea but I'm done with it I believe. One of my pistons came in contact with the head so now I have more issues. Could this thing be the wrong application for my sled? Would having Wiseco pistons make a diff?
Even though I'm going back stock I still wonder what happened.

Yes, it looks like the one I linked to just without the fancy paint or whatever, just plain aluminum.SRX-SKI said:Hello BrandXGuy, is the heads you have look like the photo you posted?

did you have to use your OEM head gaskets? or the o-ring kit came with replacements? im not sure why it would hit the domes. it should be the right head for your machine. maybe its time to replace the domes. maybe someone with MM or SXr will chime in soon.

I believe the head gaskets I used, which were new, were left over from the Wiseco piston set I bought a few years ago. The o ring set had just o rings in it.
I bought this head on a whim a couple years ago from ebay while looking for pipes and just decided to put it on this year when I had the pipes off to fix the recoil.
I hate to call the company since I bought it used and don't want to sink any more money into it.

Call me at 2086593534. I have run several of these heads and have had some issues. All my fault though
