sled revving way high after PV cleaning

haha im the guy thats good with wrenches....LOL they all come to me

whats rediculous is nothing has really changed except the reeds. by this I mean, I didnt change any settings in the carbs...just cleaned them. throttle cable is in same place, and I added extra free play in the cable just as a test.

i'll stay away from it for today, and take one more stab at it tomorrow.

if not, ill bring it to the yammy shop ( and lube my arsehole for the raping thats coming down the line from the stealership).

in the meantime, what reason(s) are there to cause the engine to race like that, if its NOT carb related? I undestand if its sucking air somewhere that'd do it.

LIke, if this was you, based on everyitng ive said, what would you #1 area to focus on be? reeds?

Time to take a step back.
If you've got a friend thats good with wrenches have him come over for a fresh look at it.
It sure sounds as though something is hanging the throttle valves open for it to idle that high.
Pull the airbox off and have a look at the throttle valves and ensure when you back off the idle adjuster that the throttle valves move lower in the carb bores.
If you can't figure this out it may be time to have a mechanic take a look.

YES I WOULD DO THE SAME TAKE OFF AIR BOX AND LOOK AT THOSE CARB TO SEE IF THEY ARE CLOSE ......THE BEST WAY TO DO IT ITS SIT A LITTLE AND THINK THINK THINK AND U WILL FOUND SOMETHING

you did say think and think right? lol.....thought I saw DRINK AND DRINK!! lol

ATLEAST U GOT A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR .................... GO GET THAT AIR BOX OFF AND TAKE A LOOK AT THOSE CARB TO MAKE SURE THEY CLOSE ......................AND MAKE SURE THE THROTTLE CABLE IS LOOSE

1] Are all the reed cage gaskets installed?
2]Does the sled have reed spacers?
-I have seen some reed spacers that have a ridge on them that will not seal properly if not installed correctly
3] Are you running VFORCE 3s?
-I got rid of these on mine because I was suspect of the seal at the corners

If Its A Air Leak Spray Something Around The Carb Boot The Engine Will Change Speed

The gaskets are all there, with the rounded little tab facing up. I cleaned up the metal flanges on the reed body and the rubber on the boots themselves. LIke i mentioned, one of the boots was stuck to the flanger, but 2 of them seemed to pop off. Could it be just old rubber on the boots? Should i sit the boots near the woodstove before installing...just to make them flexible?

No reed spacers, 100% stock oem spacers

This is why its so baffling. Nothing has changed on the sled except the middle PV cable.

Can you use high temp silicone (insta gasket) in a very small line?? or is there some trick to fix leaky reeds?

well, im embarassed to say that for whatever reason, it was in fact the throttle cable itself.

I had it on top of the oil line (on the groove that is inside the top of the airbox) and when i turned the handlebars if was pulling on it and actually stripped the threrad where you set the amount of slack in the throttle, and then lock it with the jam nut.

Anyways, happy to say I didnt burn her (as if) and shes purring at ~1800 at idle. Coincidentally, we got 15 cm of fresh snow today...maybe its a sign??

Wow. And you said your friends come to you for mechanical advice? Stick to lite beer. LOL.

Been there, done that. Screwed up things I've done properly many times before and just couldn't see what's wrong now. Live and learn.

yup, its funny eh. I clean my PV and carbs all the time.... never had this happen.

Glad i found it, as the news just said all the trails in my area are opening this weekend.... didnt really miss any good sledding, so at least thats something :)

Dont swear like that....You mean Bud Light, Lite is for brand X. ;)!
Glad you got it all figured out. I hate when that stuff happens.

geez, hard on me huh? lol I wont even begin to talk about how much better CANADIAN bud LIGHT is versus that 3% swill in the US... :D

Yeah, very frustrating to have torn everything apart x3, just to realize was the damn cable itself.... live and learn I guess
