I believe that question was answered on the 4 stroke side : Something in the chaincase froze and would not let anything past that spin. But what exactly in the chaincase crapped out was not said....

Maybe that was it Ian. And it was intermittently allowing the track to spin freely by hand, but never by throttle.

In any event, he got it out of the wilderness before someone found it and pilfered it.
 
For future reference flipping the skis around, setting the back of the track on the tow sled's rear bumper and strapping it down works better than a sled under the track for towing a sled with an immobile track.
